i did! missed who opened but caught Eradicator & Ramona but left early before Kali Masi cuz i was falling asleep standing up after a long fest day & the pizza was mediocre at best.
I've been saying this for a while now, but I'm hoping for a ska-filled day on that side stage. Barring a legit 4th wave movement happening? If there was ever a "moment" for it, I think this would be it. It'd be a total party. I hadn't thought of it yet, but it would actually be cool if it was headlined by Reel Big Fish with Jeff Rosenstock as direct support. I'm yet to go to the pizza party. I usually have another after party that I'm going to. Which is stupid because it always sounds like a blast.
Random thought about the Thursday pre show: since it’ll be small (I’m guessing MAYBE 2 or 3k people got those early tickets and will keep them, right? I can’t see how it’d be any more than that), Riot Fest really has the opportunity to lean into the feel of a small, intimate punk show. imagine if they put it on the small stage and made it “no barricades” just for that night. Or if they booked the Punk Rock Karaoke band and let audience members serve as a lead singer for one song each. I think that kinda stuff would make the night memorable and make it feel more like a shared community thing rather than just another musical performance.
No way they do no barricades, but I’d love to see some bigger bands on the small stage for the pre-show.
Got dose #1 today! It's Moderna, so I don't get #2 for a hot minute but... I'm 1/3 of the way there because I'm including the two weeks post-vaccine so I'm dividing it up into thirds. Hah. Anyway... Fingers-crossed those MGK dates coming out on Monday have a Chicago date on them.
I mean, I'd prefer that compared to any of his hip-hop output. Especially at Riot Fest. And I'd probably check out a song or two if there was nothing better going on, I guess. Just out of curiosity. The worst part of that weekend, if he's on the bill, would be overhearing people in their 30s acting like they enjoy the album in an effort to sound young, and justifying it with phrases like "It'll bring the genre back!" and "He'll bring cool pop-punk bands on tour. I've seen a lot of that on Facebook since the album's release date and it's cringe seeing it in text. I can only imagine what it's like hearing those words said aloud. But realistically? I think there's a chance he's on the bill. And if that's the case? Whatever. The 2nd-3rd lines on that poster are pretty packed for me already. There's bound to be something else I want to see going on at that time. (That's my positive take on it, anyway. Hah.)
9/21 in Detroit and the date before sure looks like Riot Fest. The fact that no Chicago date exists and dates are blurred out basically confirms he's playing Riot.
Looking at the dates, I'd bank on him performing on the 18th by the way. Just based on the size of the blurred lines. It's not so much that I don't think people in their 30s can't find anything to enjoy in the album. I've found myself humming a few of those songs more often than I'd like to admit. That shit is catchy! But acting like it's some sort of amazing pop-punk record that's in the same category as Paramore, New Found Glory, TOYPAJ-era Blink-182, or even All Time Low... Is a super strange look to me. Like, just admit that you like it for what it is. Don't try to make excuses for it.
Nah. He's just...not really an act Lolla would book. The tour starts after Lolla's dates anyways. Plus Post Malone is headlining Lolla this year and they wouldn't have two white hip hop artists headline. Yes I know his latest album is pop punk but still
dang, as i always say though, its good to have definite skips on any fest so you arent completely inundated with conflicts. now we just wait to see where he falls on the line up. cue the sad trombone noises if he is above RTJ
He's playing a lot of amphitheaters on this tour. I could see him demanding that headlining spot based on the venue sizes he is primarily playing this tour. I wouldn't be a fan though.
at least on the st. loius date it shows St. louis Music Park which is a brand new but much smaller than normal amphitheater (4,500 capacity) compared to our normal amphitheater which is 20K also worth noting they didnt blur out either rebel rock or louder than life who have not released line ups yet. i wonder if error or they are announcing today/tomorrow anyways
He would have just announced Chicago if he was playing. The venues he would be capable of playing here have already announced some shows, it's not a case of them telling him to hold off or something. I would love to be wrong though
hes also playing the rave in Milwaukee in october and that holds up to 3500 depending on what room hes playing in.
