Fever 333 is fun, but corny as hell and they put on an intense live show. It's like if Letlive sounded like Linkin Park. Worth checking out at a festival or as an opening act for whoever. Yeah, the headliners on the 2020 incarnation were better. By like, a lot. Hah. The undercard was just as bad, though. But I'd watch uh... New Politics and Stick To Your Guns, I guess? Maybe Atreyu too because I'd be there, anyway. Totally! That record has been growing on me lately... I know everybody is hyped about ETID joining the bill and there being a metal/heavier stage. But I'd be just as stoked if they added ETID to the bill and they were on a "hard rock with swagger" type stage (for lack of a better way of putting it) with Mastodon, ETID, the Bronx, Fake Names, Fucked Up and the Riverboat Gamblers. Mutoid Man would be a sweet add for that stage too. Or Torche. Could also see Brian Baker pulling double-duty with another band that weekend too (Bad Religion, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes).
Welp, that sounds pretty lame. So I guess there's literally zero bands on that lineup I'd even sort of care to see. So yeah, I stand by that it would be my hell, haha.
Rest in Peace Shock G, but I guess Digital Underground is out :( although speaking of Digital Underground, I recently read the Tupac hologram debuted at Coachella 9 years ago... when I read, did not think it was that long ago
Honestly, I think Joe Strummer and John Stamos are far better answers than anything I can come up with. A very strong case could also be made for Dave Brockie/Oderus from GWAR, though! Or, as more of a gimmick than an actual thing? Andrew W.K. performing with an Andrew W.K. hologram.
I just thought that Fuckin Whatever, the group with member of Taking Back Sunday and Anthony Green, is a big possibility, even as a secret show, as they will be already in the festival and they will release their album in June/July
It sounds like ambient pop though, it doesn't really sound like anything Riot has booked in the past.. I mean they booked Coheed this year, but I doubt they'd ever book Prize Fighter Inferno Speaking of side projects, I think this year could finally see one of Maynard's.. Puscifer, hopefully with Milla Jovovich.. and Maynard's son Devo performs with the band too, see what I did there
That would be very cool, and I could see it happening. If they’re planning to do any shows for it at all, I can’t think of a better opportunity
Yeah, I'm not really feeling that one as a possibility. I could see it as an after show maybe. But who knows what after shows are gonna look like this year... If they happen at all. (Somebody pointed this out to me, and while it's a bummer, it may very well be a reality. TBD.)
Riot has booked Fitz and the Tantrums, Bleacher and Hippo Campus who are more on the pop side of the spectrum, but also I think Fuckin Whatever are more psychodelic than pop. It seems their album would be just 5 songs, so it could be like when Beach Rats played, a 30 minutes set opening a stage, or maybe a TBS or Circa Survive after show. I dont know, just a wishful thinking, but I can see it happening for the good relation between TBS and Riot Speaking of Maynard's projects, I read somewhere that he doesn't tour in September because is harvest season. I don't know if its true, but looking at setlist.fm, there havent been any Tool/Puscifer shows in September for a few years
Wine season... harvest season sounds like he grows pumpkin or cotton lol also Fitz is hardly the same as the new TBS side project, they put on a hell of a live show
I love how the discussions here shifted from "This is definitely not happening VS This will happen" to "This artist has a show the same month so they are out of the lineup". So happy, so stoked.
Jeff Rosenstock just released a ska version of his latest album. I could see him playing a regular set the Thursday pre show and then a ska set on the hypothetical ska stage one of the other days of the festival.
If Skatune Network or We Are The Union get added the probability would increase a lot! They're both playing Fest, & Jeremy played trumpet & trombone on Ska Dream
Y'know, we do a lot of talk in this thread about artists that are "overdo" for a Riot Fest performance. And Rosenstock is high up on the list of artists I would have thought would have played the festival by now but haven't. Maybe this is the year! I'm not sure that he'd do a whole "ska" set... But he might do a song or two! With a new album from WATU on the way and a JER release forthcoming too, I hope at minimum that WATU gets added. I could also see JER and/or Skatune Network doing sets over the weekend as well. Gonna be honest, though. If given the choice: I'd have WATU at Riot Fest and then have a Skatune Network after show (pop-punk pizza party band). That would be an amazing way to end the night!
Yeah I think you're right, it'd be more realistic to have Jeremy come out for a song or two. Fingers crossed, I hope we get Jeff, WATU & Skatune Network this year. Last year was my first year and I didn't go to the pizza party, but I'd love Skatune Network to be at my first one.
