Looks like Drug Church are dropping an EP this summer with an album coming in the fall. Words cannot express how excited I would be to see them at Riot Fest (and potentially as an opener at an after show). No hints at playing any shows yet, but... Could see them being the first main stage band with any number of acts (on a "heavy" stage, a "punk" stage, or a general alt-rock stage) or a later-day side stage act.
since we are in the slow news portion of the week, whats your current Top 5 must see's of the updated roster? for me - fever 333, smashing pumpkins, RTJ, thursday, & saves the day
Highest: The Smashing Pumpkins, Sublime with Rome, Hepcat, Thursday, Saves the Day Just Below Highest: Run the Jewels, New Found Glory, the Circle Jerks, K.Flay, Fishbone, Vic Mensa, Fucked Up, MM@TA Honestly, there's a lot of artists that I really enjoy on this line-up that I've seen so many times at festivals or they tour so regularly that it's hard to get excited about them so far ahead... Even within the context of the pandemic. The Pixies, Coheed, Thrice, Taking Back Sunday, Gogol Bordello, Bayside, and Pup all fall into that category for me. Like, I'll be stoked about seeing them. But I'll pretty much know what I'm getting. Also: Worth noting that an album play from Thrice, Pup, and/or NFG will probably kick them up to "highest" based on the current line-up. EDIT: God, that made me sound like such a bummer. The line-up is really solid and I'm excited about seeing live music again. But another 45-60 minute Baysiet set that leans heavily on the S/T album just doesn't get me giddy anymore.
Smashing Pumpkins, Hepcat, Saves the Day, Coheed, tie: New Found Glory/Big Freedia I'm expecting this to change a lot after the final wave, because Offspring hasn't played my state since like 1996
pleasantly surprised how much love the pumpkins are getting! they were one of the first bands that got me into rock music at the impressionable age of 10 and i as a 35 year old have never seen them, so while they havent stayed at the top of my 'favorite band' list, the bucket list-ness of seeing them is HUGE for me.
I was never huge on them, but my partner is obsessed and has never seen them. I've owned a few of their records over the years, love all of the singles and most of the album cuts... They're just not really a "go-to" band for me at this point. It's definitely a "bucket list" thing for me, though, as at this point I've seen the majority of "90s alt-rock bands" that I'd want to with very few exceptions. And the Pumpkins are one of them!
As of now, my top 5 are Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, Living Colour, Pup, and Circle Jerks Although, that could change when we get the full lineup
Getting my first dose on Saturday, with #2 coming on May 22nd. I'm so glad I'm able to get this done ahead of the summer... And well before I have any major plans!
I look at most of those line-ups and think: "I'd go to that if it were a 60-minute drive from me." But I'm usually focused on the handful of nu-metal/hard rock bands on the line-up that aren't embarrassing and the handful of punk/hardcore/post-hardcore bands that find their way on that bill when I think that. But there's 6 bands on that entire line-up that I'd willingly watch. And 2 of those are a bit of a stretch.
It's only an hour away from me but would be really great people watching. I was very down for their cancelled lineup because at least the headliners were good (Limp Bizkit, Weezer and Blink)
