Same. I understand the hype for some of the bands people are really wanting. But looking at the line-up now, it's missing a lot of the "core" of what makes Riot Fest differ from so many other festivals.
I like some surprises and variety at riot fest, but at this point if you guaranteed me that it was for sure gonna happen and just filled out the rest of the lineup with super common riot fest bands like The Flaming Lips and Bad Religion, I’d be completely satisfied with that.
I'm in the same place. After the last 14 months, I'd take the most generic RF line up. Hell, I just bought VIP tickets and we know maybe 1/3 of the bands.
to be fair, unless you are splitting almost every set and doing a ton of 10 mins here, 15 mins there, 1/3 of the bands is about all you really want/need to see!
For sure! I can make a personal three day festival just based on what's been announced, but we all know daily breakdowns very rarely make it 100% easy for fans. (No shade to the schedulers - that's gotta be a tough thing to figure out logistically!)
Oh totally. If there was ever a year to do some weird shit like this- it'd be this one. My dream scenario would be a Thursday night mystery stage with all those bands listed above. I feel like it'd be logistically possible since the sets would be loose and playful and void of a shitload of the production value that'd increase costs like they would with a normal fob, weezer, green day show. Narx (Geoff from Thursday and Chris from Saves the Day) could open. Also, replacing MCR with The Replacements would be very on brand. Unlikely, but it'd make me really happy.
that'd make me happy too better chance they get Matchbook Romance to replace My Chemical Romance though
I’ve actually been thinking about this even before the Inkarceration leak: how many active bands would fit in at Riot Fest and still be billed above Smashing Pumpkins?? Slipknot and very few others
I'll take this over The Replacements as long as the Matchbook guys dress up like a gothy marching band.
Yeah, this is a by-the-numbers "metal"/active rock festival line-up. With the exception of Fever 333, I'm not anticipating any overlap. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the Replacements are still re-broken up again. Hah. Slipknot is one of maybe five of the bigger "nu-metal" bands I could ever see playing Riot Fest (all of which have played in the past except them). But I don't see it ever happening. It would be too off-brand as far as headliners go. If it were to, though, I would definitely check out at least some of the set. Though I'd admittedly be more into a "greatest hits" set than an Iowa play.
I hope Blink not playing Inkcarceration means that we will get Alkaline Trio playing From Here to Infirmary for its 20th.
Uh. I just looked at the billing. There is no fucking way that Mudvayne is actually that popular, right?
mudvayne must be their Jawbreaker, lol. im sure tons of people saw the poster the year jawbreaker was on top and immediately thought 'who'?
I mean, at least Jawbreaker had some notoriety from a historical perspective. I know absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that. And maybe I'm missing a piece of the puzzle... But top billing? I would have had them pegged as second stage closer or an early evening act (at best). Even with people who weren't interested in Jawbreaker, there's at least the draw of "Oh, they're an old punk band that's been broken up forever" which holds a certain air of mystique. Didn't know the same thing happened with B-level nu metal acts. Haha.
They are fifth billed on the Saturday of Aftershock (the day MCR was supposed to headline), maybe being top billed at Inkcarceration (what a dumb fucking name) has to do with them being from the midwest
This was supposed to happen last summer and Covid got in the way. Have a feeling we won’t see a No Doubt reunion anytime soon.
She pretty much said the band was done in a recent article in Variety.... which means, they'll probably reunite soon for at least a one off show
I remember a while ago an article saying Weezer had plans to do a 20 year Green Album show. This could be it?
If Slipknot is headliner, I will go back to my theory of Judas Priest. They have played festivals together, including Knotfest, with Judas Priest as direct support of Slipknot. And someone mentioned that Killswitch Engage is a possibility. I wouldnt be that excited if it happens, to be honest.
