I hope we get some form of Claypool. I have tickets to a Claypool Lennon show at the end of June so I'll get to see them either way. Agree that their latest album is really good (I liked the first one too) If last year didn't kill Riot Fest what would? Seriously though I do worry a bit about whether they pissed their sponsors off. I guess I shouldn't worry about that though as it seems they are picking up bands left and right and still selling tickets so it's proceeding as normal, seemingly. You can't stop Riot Fest! Nice! Have never gotten to see them, that'd be rad
They were actually one the very first bands I saw at Riot Fest back in 2009. I’m kind of surprised they haven’t been back since then.
And it looks like they’re semi-active again. I for sure thought they were gonna be on it last year. This year makes sense
That was exactly my thought/a joke I almost made with that initial post. "Because I can't be there - you're welcome for OpIvy!" Hopefully, if they do play, and all goes well... They'd do more shows. I mean, that would make sense. I'm not convinced that they ever actually know when it's going to be released, though, until the day or two before it happens. Hah. I mean, that would be an easy enough get I would think. Assuming Riot wants to book them. Would be a great addition!
I keep hoping to see an announcement that the presale has ended as that has always meant that the lineup is imminent, except in 2017 it seems the presale ran right up to the on sale (or at least I can't find an announcement that the presale ended). I wonder what was so different in 2017 that they were able to release the lineup early that year?
We may or may not be getting Greta Van Fleet. No Chicago date on their fall 2019 tour. Greta Van Fleet Announce North American 'March of the Peaceful Army' Tour - RockCellarMagazine They are in New Zealand on Sep 10 so I had previously ruled them out due to this but, I suppose it's feasible they could make it back in time to play Riot Fest, otherwise I don't see why they aren't playing Chicago (Personally I'm not a big fan of GVF and wish the money had went elsewhere, if they did in fact book them ...)
I tried to stay away and now Greta Van Fleet is being mentioned and now this GreenDay guy is every other post with news that almost always bums me out. Goodbye again, peace and love
Sorry that I piss you off Mike, it's not every year I get to attend and I'm being a bit obsessive about it ... is there an ignore function in the message board you might use?
Great Van Fleet could play, and if they did they would almost certainly be high on the lineup. They sold out three nights at the Aragon last year and will probably play the United Center next time they tour here (not at a festival).
Greta Van Fleet is one of those bands I would absolutely not want to ever see. Why would I want a poor copy of Led Zeppelin?
The only reason I could imagine Riot booking GVF is to try and get a younger audience, or a dad rock audience to Riot. But I have no idea why they’d ever do that
Some of my friends who I've gone to Riot with in the past would be very stoked if GVF played and it would be a contributing factor in convincing them to make the trip for the first time in a couple years. They're good people I swear!! And fuck it I'll just throw it out, if they somehow got them both, having one of the days end with GVF>Foo Fighters would be a huge draw for a lot of people (I don't think this will happen)
GVF is a band I like, but wouldn't go out of my way to see a headline show so a festival appearance would be fine with me.
I can see a kind of sense in GVF if they play the same night as The Raconteurs. Probably some overlap in that venn diagram
It's not as glaringly obvious for several factors, but I would assume that's why they book a few of the acts they've booked over the years. For a few years there, wasn't Riot Fest filling out the headliner and sub-headliner slots on the "second" main stage with those heavier Warped Tour acts? It's closer in terms of "scene" or whatever, but the principal would be the same as them booking Greta Van Fleet... Book something that will bring a bunch of younger kids. I always operate under the assumption that they book what will draw so long as it's not too far out of the wheel house and they can balance it out with another headliner or whatever. I'm not sure if GvF would fit or not, but I definitely wouldn't rule it out given those tour dates (and the fact that they've already did a run of the larger festivals last year).
ETID over Damned Things please although I'll be excited for either Just not enough ETID this year lol
When I saw The Damned Things at Welcome to Rockville last week Scott Ian didn't make it and Keith said they were coming back in the summer. I guess ETID is taking a bit of a break.
Man it would be awesome if Riot snagged Against Me! for 3x album plays over three days. Riot is just the festival to pull that off, too. GVF were fun when I saw them live spring 2018 but their full length debut was kinda bad. I think they'd headline (yes I'm serious) if they were booked. 3x at the Aragon is what NIN did ffs.
Well I think today's the first day we can realistically begin to hope for a line-up/tease announcement. Keep refreshing those emails, folks.
