i may be off on my timing a bit but, there was Blink-182 Toronto date the week of Riot Fest that was known before the lineup dropped. Not sure if it was known in early May or late May. Yeah my point really is that while The Cure and Slayer may seem obvious right now I wouldn't be surprised to see other big names and/or totally different big names I'm basing Blink being suspected on the Riot Fest 2018 Speculation thread over on Reddit edit: So I looked it up (because why wouldn't you) and it looks like Blink-182 wasn't rescheduled for Sep 18 in Toronto until May 29, literally the day before Riot Fest dropped the lineup, so nevermind that point. I guess they were speculated for about 24 hours before they were confirmed.
You're right about the Canadian date - It was a quick run with State Champs. Not sure if that was before or after the Riot Fest announcement, though... You're spot-on about the possibility of "totally different big names" too. The speculation is generally done based on current tour dates. So it all comes from shit that's out in the open. There's bound to be some band with a fall tour that's TBA or a band only playing Riot Fest that winds up on the bill. That happens every year without fail.
So since that Blink 182/Lil Wayne tour is looking likely to happen, would Lil Wayne be way to out of left field for Riot Fest? I know they’re not strangers to having more contemporary rap artists, but would LW be too weird?
He's out based on Lolla (as said above) but personally, I think he'd be a little weird at this point. He seems to be a bit heavy on the pop tip or whatever to fit the bill. But I think this has come up before, and I know people here disagree with me on that. Haha.
Some random dude on reddit claims the Raconteurs are 100% playing and when asked if they are headlining, he said If they really are playing Saturday, I'm thinking they would not be headlining
does he still rap about skinny jeans.. also, I could really do without any random anonymous rumors from reddit.. it's why I quit going there in the first place the Selecter would be the shit tho
What? You don't want to talk about how the Talking Heads are totally going to reunite just for Riot Fest this year and it's totally the year that Tears For Fears are finally going to play?
My standards are pretty low. This is the first out of state festival I'm going to be able to attend since the baby two years ago and the first Riot Fest since 2015. The hype is real. I knew better than to believe the Lizzo rumor though.
I know they typically go legacy hip hop acts but I feel like RTJ broke that pattern last year so hear me out... Tyler, The Creator. I know this one is way out in left field - hell, it's not even in the park - but he has only two festival dates and a new album coming out soon. It'd be a complete coup by Riot Fest but I also know he doesn't fit anything about Riot Fest. But when you gotta swing for the fences and make some noise - this is that. I also know this is 99.9999999999% unlikely and probably just a fever dream.
Tyler played Riot Fest Denver in 2016 so it’s very likely he could play. Riot has gotten contemporary hip hop/rap acts before. I know Action Bronson played 2017. I feel like there were others, but I can’t think of any off the top of my head
Honestly, I can’t see The Raconteurs headlining. I don’t even think they have any songs that casual music listeners would know. Also, they’re playing smaller venues on their tour, not arenas or big ballrooms. I just do not think they are big enough to headline. Jack White solo? Absolutely. The White Stripes reunion? No doubt. But The Raconteurs? I cannot see it happening.
The ideal for me would be The Raconteurs closing out the second stage opposite Blink-182, since I've already seen Blink. But I may be in the minority who would want that.
Just looked back at some other old lineups, and yeah, Tyler played Denver in 2016 and Toronto in 2015. Vince Staples and Danny Brown both played Denver 2016 too
I'd be down with Danny Brown.. saw he did some recent shit with Open Mike Eagle, he'd be even better, his set at Pitchfork last was pretty great.. no comment on Tyler
