Why are The Raconteurs being considered a headliner? They're playing a 2,000 cap theater here and it's still not sold out? Are they really headliner worthy?
I really think The Raconteurs are going to be second-level headliner at best. My money is still on Slayer for the third day.
The Raconteurs definitely aren't a headliner. But they're easily a sub-headliner. I'm actually starting to lean toward the Cure/Blink-182/Slayer as far as top three goes. With Bikini Kill, the Stray Cats, the Raconteurs, NOFX, and the B-52s on line #2. With Rancid, a hip-hop act I can't think of/venture to guess, 1-2 modern alt-rock-type acts, the Descendents, and one other act on line #3. EDIT: I'd also guess that there would be at least one heavier act on the bill as a subheadliner under Slayer. I know Anthrax is an obvious guess, but anytime I've ever seen them on a festival bill they were toward the bottom 1/4 of the line-up.
cant find an entire tour announcement but a local venue here in St. Louis just announced The Toasters on 9/10 which puts them in the area for Riot
Reel Big Fish and Aquabats just announced a summer tour with no Chicago stop. Aquabats just played last year though RBF has a ton more dates on their website this year but nothing in Chicago so ... very likely?
Because Weezer and Run The Jewels were headliners last year. That, and if you're booking The Cure and Blink-182, then you'll need a less expensive third headliner.
i have to agree, raconteurs cant touch weezer when it comes to comparing popularity and legacy, and run the jewels have only continued to get bigger with each album they put out, while id argue the raconteurs have never been as big as their first big (and only?) hit and mainly are still an attraction simply because of Jack White. Im not trying to Knock them as a band, id be there to check them out if they are only the line up i just dont see them quite at headliner status.
all I know is if the Raconteurs headline, expect that day have like 3 actual headliners... like the Friday of 2016.. I can't count the Sunday of last year which was just maligned with so many changes
A concept: What if Slayer is playing, but they're not headlining, despite it probably being their final Chicago show? I only suggest that because they're not headlining that Tennessee festival despite that being their final one in that state.
I could totally see this happening. It kind of depends how you read last year's relatively scaled down lineup, was that a fluke because of their security breach and having to cut the ticket price (and therefore the lineup), or is that what we can expect from the fest moving forward? You also might optimistically think they will deliver a stacked lineup for the 15th anniversary. The 10th certainly delivered ... not that we can expect that caliber of lineup in today's market, but I'll bet the 15th will be a step up from last year. The problem with Slayer not headlining is you have to come up with a third headliner and that's not easy this year. Last year Beck and Blink-182 were fairly obvious at this point (or at least, heavily rumored)
We're almost there. We have, what? Another ~3 weeks at most if they follow patterns from previous years. I'm really not sure? That TN festival is strange as far as headliners are concerned (in that GnR is way bigger than the others). I was about to say "Well, the headliners are bigger than Riot Fest usually has..." but that doesn't hold water with Def Leppard and Skynyrd. Haha. I suspect the 15th anniversary will be... A standard Riot Fest line-up. They might angle it to say that it's "bands who have played the festival over the years," but the reality is that you can say that about most line-ups they put together at this point. Was Blink really "obvious" at this point last year? I remember being surprised that they were on the bill. Not that it was really all that surprising, but I don't recall a lot of speculation about them playing or not. The rest of the top few lines on that line-up last year weren't total shockers but I don't recall many of the acts being heavily speculated beforehand. That's why I look forward to the announcement each year. There's always some way out of left field shit that nobody predicted.
