I was shocked how high they are on the Leeds festival bill, not that they aren’t bigger than the other acts on the stage, more that they are sub headliners
Man I used to remambwr seeing reading festival lineups and being so blown away. Now there's only like 3 acts I wanna see the entire weekend
That is a good point, but I still think they'll be Riot. I mean the weekend after Mamby they leave for international dates. The weekend before Riot they are still international, but then the next weekend is Kentucky Bourbon Fest. So idk dropping Riot Fest in really bridges that gap whereas Mamby would seem a little more out of place since their tour ends early August.
How confusing is it to have both Pup and Puppy on the same stage, right next to each other? Granted I don't know who Puppy are, but still, gave me a chuckle. Get Kittie, Phish and a Byrds reunion and it can be the Pet stage.
Also can't forget one of Riot's charms is the random great bands that almost never play like that dog.. maybe we'll get self.
That's been one of my favorite parts about the festival the last few years. Those random bands on the smaller tip that were a great add for me but absolutely nothing I ever would have anticipated (specifically, that dog. and Engine 88 in 2018 and Cobra Skulls in 2019).
plus it's the 15th anniversary, we deserve surprises haha.. I didn't go to Riot last time they played, and hum is on my bucket list so that'd make me freak out
I'd never really listened to the Cobra Skulls before I saw them at Riot. The occasional song that I kind of wrote off. Well, "Thicker Than Water" ended up 2nd on my "most listened to song" for 2018 from Spotify. Considering Riot Fest is mid-September and those Spotify lists are through October 31st, it shows how much they were on repeat every single day at work. It's good to know at 36 I can still see a band I don't know much about and fall in love with them. It's certainly much harder than when I was 18, but not impossible.
I wasn't too into them live when they did Riot Fest, but I see the appeal. Their recorded work is all fantastic though! Hope they wind up on the bill for you! Man, I know the feeling. Hard. That's exactly how I feel about Spanish Love Songs, these days! Cobra Skulls, though, were a favorite of mine in the late mid-2000s and they seemed to be getting better and better with each release (the last 7" had one of their best songs ever, IMHO, "Eagle Eyes").
Petition for a local emo/math band to play the fest i.e. Retirement Party, Ratboys, Dowsing, Pet Symmetry, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, Options etc.
I’d love to see Kali Masi to fill that local slot. Wind Instrument was one of my favorite albums of 2017.
I just realized last night that this year is the 40th anniversary of the B-52s debut album. They pay half the songs in their normal set anyway but, would be pretty cool.
Have The Mountain Goats ever played? They’re playing two sold out shows at Thalia Hall in May but with a new album out and the “punk” feeling I get from them I feel like they would be a good fit.
So I’m at the rise against show tonight and ran into zack outside and asked him if they would be playing riot fest and he gave me a look and said idk so take that as you will but he never said yes or no straight out
As much as I would love that I highly doubt it would happen they aren’t that type of band. But since we are on the topic of them new album should be out summer 2020 and they will be most likely doing a ghost vol 2 at some point
