So Morrissey played last year, Johnny Marr playing this year.... Smiths next year? How many million would that cost.

  5. Could see Slayer being one of the hidden headliners. They're apparently going to ride out this whole breakup thing for a little while. Maybe they'll play South of Heaven in full.

They just played First Midwest Ampitheater

I'm honestly shocked there's been backlash for nofx. The general sense I'm getting from most punks is that "typical fat mike"... definitely insensitive joke but whatever apologize move on... But it's a weird time. Kicked off their very own festival crazy

It went beyond his usual tasteless “humor”, plus it went viral which makes them a liability. Sadly money or the threat to it is still the only thing that will always get action about these kinds of things.

Typical Fat Mike at this point needs to be put out to pasture. It should have happened after the fucking Cokie the Clown incident when he got audience members to drink his own piss. Dude has been a juvenile edgelord for years now...he's free to say whatever shit he wants, but he's not impervious to being called out on it. It was only a matter of time before this stuff caught up with him.

Did it go beyond? Plus I feel like intent matters when judging a bad joke vs bad joke that requires some cumuppence. Fat mike isn't a supporter of gun violence really and it's not as if his joke has societal ramifications (ie Roseanne saying racist shit).

    Yikes.

Also how am I just hearing about this drinking pee thing now?? God he sucks so much. It’s too bad it’s taken this long for things to reach a breaking point.

I just read NOFX's book. The pee thing wasn't real. He did piss in a bottle, but he was handed an actual bottle of liquor right before going on stage.

I don't know. I think the mass murder of 58 people (and 851 people getting injured) while attending a music festival has some serious societal implications...just some food for thought. What Roseanne said was vile in itself, but maybe not joke about the deadliest mass shooting incident committed by a single individual in the history of the United States? It isn't hard.

I know NOFX’s dark humor banter is pretty much their trademark now, but honestly I think there was a fine line crossed with that joke tbh.

It’s getting old, and I hope that this whole controversy will maybe tame them.

Although LJG makes a good point.

I mean there’s not much to say when someone doesn’t see social ramifications for joking about people being murdered at a concert in front of people who lost loved ones to it.

I really want RF to rethink his booking. They’ve been good in the past about speaking out about safety issues and it’s just a bad look. Her tweet is probably the best shot at this getting some attention.

I think to understand how truly vile what Fat Mike said you need to think about the fact that he made these comments at a MUSIC FESTIVAL IN VEGAS. This wasn't a comment he made in Kansas, or years after the tragedy occurred. He made a joke to a city that is still healing from the wound, in a setting where I'm sure it is already on their mind. I doubt there was a person at the event who didn't already have the shooting on their mind as they were attending. They were probably scared and still hurt. Who knows if anyone there had family or friends or themselves who were at the festival, or god forbid even were a victim of the shooting? That's absolutely going too far.

I agree with Laura, but in the sense that Jerry Lee Lewis should not be playing Riot Fest rather than the sense the NOFX should not be punished.

So joking about a terrorist attack in front of a crowd of people who some of which might have had loved ones killed or injured in the incident is just par for the course with NoFX/Fat Mike and has no real social ramifications? Dope to know.

No one is arguing that it went too far. By far 100% the definition of too soon and wrong place. But to me it comes down to, hey man, you might want to apologize for that one.

Because I’m in a good mood, how about normalizing gun violence, othering and diminishing the lives that were lost, retraumatizing fans who have already worried that the same could happen to them, making it clear that you don’t value your audience, and just generally doing a disservice to the fact that you have a platform to reach tons of people and making that kind of behavior seem acceptable to those who look up to you.
