Really? Smash Mouth - All Star, I'm A Believer (let's be real this is the version we all know and love), Walkin' On the Sun, Come On Come On, All Star counts twice Papa Roach - Scars, Last Resort... ?????
The RF coordinators are probably going to see this thread and just decide that their festival is dead.
Moving on, other bands it'd be cool to see next year (mostly pipe dream): -Bear vs. Shark -Avail -Charly Bliss -Tim Barry -Thrice -GOB -Nails -Treble Charger -Valient Thorr -Paint It Black -Negative Approach -Torche -Blacklisted -Larry and His Flask edit: y'all some trolls.
Now, what would be considered a "hit"? I'm going to go with just the number of Billboard 100 hits for each (since Papa Roach has a ton of Alt/Mainstream Rock charting hits). Here's how I break it down from old to new with their highest position: Smash Mouth (5): Walkin on the Sun (#2 on Hot 100 Airplay), Can't Get Enough (#27 on Hot 100 Airplay), All Star (#4), Then the Morning Comes (#11) and I'm a Believer (#25). Papa Roach (6): Last Resort (#57), She Loves Me Not (#76), Getting Away with Murder (#69), Scars (#15), Forever (#55) and Lifeline (#81).
If we're going down the nu metal route, gimme some o' dat Limp Bizkit next year. Band has an endless catalogue of bangers and they killed it at Rockfest last summer. Fair warning - crowd will not be chill
Yea but if you ask the average person on the street. 9/10 are going to say they know the Smash Mouth songs better. I can't believe you actually looked all that up
Bring Me the Horizon should have a new album out by next summer so I could see them playing again -- probably in a slot similar to ADTR and Paramore this year.
I'd love to see Bear Vs. Shark, GOB, Valient Thorr, Torche, Paint It Black, and/or Negative Approach. Larry And His Flask would be fantastic too--particularly on that smaller stage. Everything I hear about Tim Barry seems to lean toward Avail not doing anything anytime soon, just because Tim isn't at all into it at the moment and would rather do his solo stuff. But I'm sure at some point it'll happen (though I'd put money on that going down at Fest, if anywhere).
Like I said, it's mostly a dream wishlist. I've been fortunate enough to have seen most of the acts posted on that list at one time or another. Everything I've ever read from Tim has indicated exactly what you said. I figure the Avail reunion would be more likely at either United Blood (RVA connections), GWAR-B-Q (RVA again), or the Fest like you mentioned. Money talks after all. With that being said, Tim solo is always a fun time as well. I'm stoked to see him here in Chicago next month.
We posited that before the great and stupid Smash Mouth/Papa Roach kerfuffle of 2017 banished everyone to the ends of the earth
15 Totally Obvious Riot Fest Bands... that have NOT PLAYED EVER or in the past 7 years) - Green Day - My Chemical Romance - Sum 41 - Reel Big Fish - MXPX - H2O - Goldfinger - Panic at the Disco - Aquabats - Suicide Machines - Hellogoodbye - Good Charlotte - Billy Talent - Avenged Sevenfold - 311 - All American Rejects
The bolded ones baffle the fuck out of me, haha. MxPx and/or H2O would be awesome amounts of fun on that second stage. I'm pretty sure Good Charlotte was supposed to play this year and had to bail.
Yea those are really confusing omissions, although I don't see a place for Panic! at Riot Fest anymore unfortunately. Too big for even Paramore's slot, but wouldn't go over well as a headliner.
I want to see Hellogoodbye again SO BADLY. Sum 41, Goldfinger, Aquabats, and Suicide Machines would all be sick as hell too.
