Are there any hip-hop acts that Riot Fest could/would book as a top three headliner who don't already play a ton of other festivals? Legitimately asking, as I'm struggling to come up with any... But the best I can come up with, as an act that Riot might book, is Kendrick Lamar or Eminem (who both regularly play other big festivals).

I'd actually like to see that happen at some point (regardless of that act playing other festivals or not).

I gotta think there's like a zero percent chance either of those artists would ever play Riot Fest. Who's the biggest hip hop/rap act that's ever played? Ice Cube or Snoop Dog? Eminem and Kendrick Lamar are on another level.

Also - the last thing I'd want is for Riot Fest to burn their artist budget on an arena-level hop hop act, with the rest of the lineup suffering because of it.

I think Run the Jewels, Flatbush Zombies, Vince Staples, and maybe NERD are the most realistic rappers for this year, and there will probably be an old-school get too.

I could see De La Soul or The Roots playing too.

De La Soul is playing another fest so they can't play this year, but they've played Riot before.

Anyone think Billie Joe Armstrong’s new band, The Longshot could play?

Can’t help but notice that they don’t have a Chicago date on their upcoming tour...

Almost definitely. What slot would that even have?

Probably early on the main stage or late on the side stage.

Once you get beyond web sites like this... That band is barely a blip.

Green Day is massive, but it doesn’t seem like they’re trying to push this project in any major way. Not yet, anyway...

Also: Crazy that the band has somebody from Banner Pilot in it.

  14. I’m sure it won’t happen this year (or probably ever) but I’d love to see Discount reunite for Riot Fest.

What's funny about riotfest is that pretty much no matter what I won't be going. I just like anticipating the lineup.

Saaaaaaame. I live in CA, and every year there is no way I can make it, but gosh darn it, I’m nerdy about this sort of stuff

Has this world stopped asking what it's thinking?

I’m guaranteed to go too, but I also live in Chicago. That’s not as an impressive feat as you out of towners.

Riot Fest is my big travelling festival every year until I start saving up enough money for things like Fest or Pitchfork, so I'm pretty much duty bound to go unless I have absolutely zero interest in the lineup, which has never happened before.

Whether I'm able to and/or want to go each year is irrelevant. I'm always curious about what they pull together, how it rolls out, etc. They almost always put together something unique and interesting.

That being said? If Operation Ivy is on the bill, I will be there come hell or high water.

Yeah I go every year no matter what. It's usually my birthday weekend every year so I treat myself

Fingers crossed for an announce this week!

Like chewbacca, I live in the Chicago area so being able to go to the fest is a moot point for me. I haven't been to the main shindig in a few years because of work and life commitments, but I like anticipating the lineup because it gives me an idea of what aftershows I can anticipate.

I feel like this is very realistic so I'm hoping Alkaline Trio play and then do an aftershow at Metro or something

Garbage is coming to Chicago in October. No Riot for them.

What are the odds that Into It Over It starts playing shows again soon?

Also I wonder if Bob Nanna bands will play (Braid and Hey Mercedes, namely.)

I could see them IO/OI doing Riot Fest even if they don't play a whole mess of shows.

Related: I would be super happy about Hey Mercedes at Riot Fest! I missed them at Wrecking Ball due to venue capacity (that festival's biggest flaw) and wound up having to bail on the Boston date when they came around most recently so... That would be awesome. Wouldn't be mad about Braid, either!
