Anyone remember what was the last song in Spitalfield's set? I missed it because i rushed to see BFMV. Also, anyone tried that weird electrolyte thingy they were giving away? I was afraid to try it at first because i thought it had caffeine in it (trying to avoid it, makes me ADHD go off the charts) but i tasted the grape one anyway and it was freaking disgusting. How do people drink that shit? It had an awful texture to it and it felt like drinking dish soap.
haha no, but it was my last ridiculously long run before the Chicago Marathon on 10/7. As you Riot Festers know - yesterday was too damn hot to be running for hours on end. Somehow I rallied with the power of breakfast food/nap/Red Bull.
It was “Make My Heart Attack.” And that stuff is Pedialyte. It’s been a thing to help kids get over colds and stuff for a long time (I definitely remember my mom giving it to me when I was younger), but I guess they’re rebranding it as sort of powdered Gatorade since it’s allegedly a great hangover cure.
‘Big Friday Night For These Losers’: Men Caught On Video Gleefully Destroying Local Boutique’s Plants Also, does anyone recognize these jackasses?
I'm so glad I decided to take a few extra days off work after the festival. I'm dead. I'm glad that after all the craziness from this year we all still had a blast!
I had a really great time this year outside of a bit of sunburn (seriously, not a single cloud all weekend?). Getting to and from Douglas Park will always be a hassle, but it feels like they've settled pretty well into this layout. The water situation was the best it's ever been, and even food lines weren't too bad, at least when I was eating. Five stages seems like the right amount to me, and while there's definitely still some sound bleed, I can't think of an obviously better way to organize them without pointing one or more directly at the hospital on the south side of the park. In past years, were there lights in the main field area? It definitely seemed harder to navigate after dark than in the past, but at least there were no enormous mud puddles to dodge. As far as music, Spitalfield, Bleachers, the Wonder Years, and the Jesus Lizard were the highlights for me, but I didn't see a bad set all weekend.
I think they were eating at the same restaurant I was after the show. I only noticed them because the guy in the black shirt fell asleep at the table and his friends just left without him. Someone else went and woke him up as we were leaving and his friends were just outside watching the whole thing laughing. Told him he should find some better friends but guess he’s as shitty as they are.
it was way too dark for people to be sitting down in the main field area when people are trying to walk. fuck that.
Worst set I saw was the little bit of Hobo Johnson I caught. Honestly the worst thing I’ve heard in awhile Most surprising set was Just Friends My favorite set was probably Souls or Trio Seeing Direct Hit 3 times was awesome and seeing Souls twice was also very awesome as they were extremely on point yesterday The aftershow crowd for Souls was strange but they killed it and the setlist was amazing
Yesterday was awesome! Favorite sets were The Wonder Years, Run the Jewels, Just Friends, and SWMRS - ten favorite sets of the weekend were... 1. The Wonder Years 2. Run the Jewels 3. Just Friends 4. Matt & Kim 5. Beck 6. The Aquabats 7. Wolfmother 8. SWMRS 9. GWAR 10. Underoath Two least favorite sets were Cat Power and Calpurnia, though I definitely agree with Justin, Hobo Johnson was tough to walk by.
Also, I'm sorry if this was anyone in here, but before The Wonder Years started and I was waiting, someone came up to me and talked to me about Riot Fest/music/work for about 10 minutes or so. They said they knew me, but when they came up to me, I didn't hear their name/connection. If it was one of you, thank you for being so nice!
also, echoing everyone else’s statements: i’m terrifyingly exhausted. my girlfriend and i are going back into the city (as if we didn’t do that already saturday and sunday before riot fest) to flip off trump tower, grab some food, and maybe do some shopping. because after a weekend of riot fest, 2 after parties, and 2 previous trips to the city, one more trip to the city to put the body through more pain sounds fun!
Also, holy shit, I'm still trying to process that my friend and I went to a music festival from 11:30 to 9:40, drove to a different section of Chicago for an aftershow that went until 1 AM, and drove back (stopping twice for gas and to drop off a friend), and I drove us back home to Michigan from 3:30 AM to 5:30 AM without falling asleep. God bless Red Bull.
Worst set of the weekend was definitely Piebald. I just stopped by their set because we had just gotten there and I was so uncomfortable I had to leave. I guess I didn't really listen to them before besides American Heart, but playing a song about being a creep then following it with "take what you want" really didn't send a great message. On a more positive note, seeing Save Face rock out at Riot Fest was something really special. The first time I saw them was in an alleyway back in 2016. It's so cool to see them killing it.
