ATDI, Cap’n Jazz, Radar State, and RVIVR were all second wave though. It wasn’t a huge headliner but tons of my must-sees came from it. Was it ever confirmed that they had a Chris Cornell project planned and then had to scramble?

Listening to the ID10T podcast episode with CHVRCHES and Matt from the National. At one point, they mentioned that the two bands would "probably see each other at festivals" followed up by Matt saying "There's a thing in Chicago and [CHRVCHES] are playing the day before..." They didn't get into details as to whether it's at the same festival or if they just happen to be in the same city. Hah.

I'm assuming Matt is referencing either Lolla or Riot Fest. I'm assuming it's Lollapalooza, but... Something to keep an eye on.

And I know at least one person on this thread mentioned the National as a potential headliner.

Ok I'm making my first official prediction that Beck will be one of our headliners. He just announced a bunch of U.S. dates, no Chicago, has a lull in touring after July 20th until 3 random dates in September the weekend after Riot Fest. If it's true that he was supposed to play in 2016, it'd make sense for them to grab him now that he's actually touring.

    LIVER ALONE!

I'd be down with some Beck. Don't think I'd pay to see a solo show, but a festival: absolutely.

Yea that's exactly how I feel. I kind of like headliners like that where I probably wouldn't see them otherwise, but I know I'd have a good time at their show.

no way to spin Beck that doesn't feel like a really weird headliner pick for me. that's the vibe i could def see of a second or third line act, but it doesn't feel like a big three for Riot Fest

    Sending my love

I never really cared for Beck much before, but saw him at KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas in 2016 and actually quite enjoyed it.

I'm all for Beck playing, but is he really a headliner-headliner? I'd say direct support to a headliner (or maybe closing a second stage). But definitely not top line... Unless Riot is "cutting back" on headliners this year too.

And I'd be stoked to see him again. He's straight-up one of the best live performers I've ever seen. Super fun.

I could be off on him as an actual headliner. It's kind of hard to guage honestly. I mean before 2017, the headliners have usually been like 1 huge artists and 2 pretty big ones. 2014 - The Cure (huge), The National (pretty big), Jane's Addiction (pretty big); 2015 - System of A Down (huge), No Doubt (pretty big), Modest Mouse (pretty big); 2016 - Misfits (huge), Morrissey (pretty big), The Flaming Lips (pretty big). Last year they did seem to step it up a little.

So it'll depend. I could see it going either way. I definitely think Beck can hang compared with the "pretty big" artists we've had before. I could see him subbing as well though.

don't get me wrong, he's definitely headliner big. last year he headlined our local Mountain Jam on Sunday, while Tom Petty closed out Saturday, and that fest did very very well both days. i just don't see him selling folks that wouldn't previously be going unless the other headliners are equally out of left field (not impossible, seems like this will be the year for that if any)

I think we can all agree, though, that it looks pretty likely that he'll be on that poster a month from now. Haha.

I'd absolutely watch Beck. He was one of my predictions for a headliner.

Lagwagon's European tour ends at the tail-end of August. No US dates after that yet, but given that they seem to be focusing on festivals this year as opposed to a headlining run... I'd say this will be finally be their year!

Would make sense too. They likely have an album coming out in the fall/early winter.

I’m just really hoping we get Weezer or Modest Mouse this year.

Would the Tinley show on July 7th rule Weezer out?

    Definitely

And I doubt Modest Mouse would come back again so soon

If PBC played Riot Fest I would be super bummed honestly.

I don't think that it will never happen. This would be a good year for it too.

Definitely a possibility for Fest. Particularly if Jimmy's new band is playing, anyway... But if they're practicing the songs for Fest, anyway, I could see them doing a handful of other shows. I don't know that I'd count Riot Fest out. They certainly had a decent amount of notoriety as a band, and the reunion would jack that up some... I could see them landing a 45-minute main stage slot super early in the day or a 5 o'clockish set on that second stage.

I don't know, seems like a high billing. I saw them in Toronto on their farewell tour and they couldn't have drawn more than 100 people. I don't think they've either been gone long enough or had enough notoriety for a prominent slot.

That being said - they're still one of my favorite bands so I'd be excited for any reunion talks.
