If I could control myself to not want to stay out until 4-5am my days would be much easier lol

But yes Menz starting the day off in 2014 was definitely hell at its finest

I wasn't into the Menzingers that year so I didn't show up until the Front Bottoms. But that was one of my favorite Riot Fest sets ever.

Menzingers into Bouncing Souls was probably the best 1-2 Riot Fest set I've ever been apart of

I was sad that Souls played at the same time as TFB but I would say it was maybe the most energetic and maybe best Souls set I've ever seen so not too sad

Never really listened to the Bouncing Souls, but I'm glad it was fun. I'm still hoping for a TFB set this year.

What about Panic at the Disco? They're certainly big enough to headline, but it would be a little riskier for RF to book because I think there'd be some backlash from the core audience, but they'd bring the crowd in and would be a good way to get a boost in younger people coming in. If it was balanced out with two more straightforward rock/punk bands, I think it would be possible. I wouldn't bet on it, but I wouldn't call it impossible. But they seem set to announce a tour next Monday so I guess we'll know for sure then.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I was thinking Panic could be a realistic choice for Lollapalooza just yesterday actually. We’ll see next week!

That was a pretty great way to kick-offf Sunday! The mud sucked, but I got over it pretty quickly. I'm hoping the Souls make a return this year!

For whatever reason, I don't think of Panic as a "headliner" for a festival of this size. Maybe direct support or something, though? I don't know. They just don't feel big enough on a "regular" basis" to do something like that when they're off-cycle.

That being said? They could definitely close out one of the "second" main stages... Or whatever the fuck those are called, haha.

Ehhh you're assessment is a little off, and I get why. They've sneakily become bigger than they've ever been. They played here last March and sold out the Allstate well in advance (if not immediately I don't remember). I'm not sure QOTSA could've done that, and Morrissey and The Flaming Lips definitely couldn't have done that. Plus they are gearing up for a new album cycle, teasing an announcement on 3/19. If they played they'd 100% headliner, but I do think there's a lot of doubt about whether it would actually make sense for either party.

Yea I'm back and forth on it, but it does seem possible. Honestly I don't care as long as I get to see them somewhere this year. It'd be fun if they played one of the fests though.

That's a fair point about QOTSA, Morrissey, and the Flaming Lips. I guess I was just thinking about the "fit." I can see them being booked, and I can see them being high up on the bill. But I don't think they would be a main stage "closer." The name just doesn't have enough oomph, I don't think. All three of the names you referenced aren't the biggest bands in the world, but they don't tour a whole ton. At the time of the announcement, I think it was one of maybe three QOTSA in North America that had been announced.

Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm just old and out of touch. Haha. I was stunned at how many people left after they played with Weezer.

Personally, I think they're enough of a fit that if they were big enough/if Riot Fest thought they would draw? They'd do it.

I’d say they’re on par with Paramore, who played last year closing out the night opposite MIA. Both Para and Panic! came from the same MySpace era and are both fairly even in terms of the size and age of their fan bases.

I see where you're coming from in that respect, but I think if they weren't seen as the right fit for headliner, they just wouldn't play. I really can't see them taking the Paramore spot. The band is headlining Reading & Leeds alongside Kendrick Lamar, Fall Out Boy, Travis Scott, and Kings of Leon.
I have to disagree here. Panic! latched on with a whole new younger fan base which doesn't even care that much about what happened before Too Weird To Live. They really tapped into the twenty one pilots/Halsey crowd. It happened subtly but the band is huge right now. They're bigger than Paramore, pretty easily.

I hope I'm not coming across argumentative or anything. I just truly don't think people realize what has happened with Panic! over the last few years. I don't even understand it myself fully.

I can confirm that when I went to the Weezer/Panic tour 2 years ago, half the crowd left as soon as Panic's set was over. I was not expecting it.

Which is incredibly sad imo. Panic will never release anything half as good as Weezer's first two albums, if you ask me.

But Panic’s discography is better than most of what Weezer has put out after those two records, so it’s kind of a wash.

And I say that as a pretty big Weezer fan, haha.

panic is huge but they aren't really a "festival" headlining band for something like this. can't really expect to fill a festival day like this with a band catering to college kids and younger

  17. I could maybe see Panic working well at Riot Fest if they were playing all of Fever or something, but that doesn’t really make sense for the band to do right now.

I could totally see Panic! headlining Friday or closing out against an old-school rare get Sunday. They’re no further from the scene than a bunch of the other bands who have played recently. If they managed to get Fever in full for it it would even pull in a lot of the older fans who may have moved on. Not that they would necessarily be down, obviously, but that would be a big deal.

Ha, funny timing. Maybe we’ll get it for the 15th soon. I would honestly rather have Pretty.Odd, but I can’t imagine that would have the same appeal.

They are not going to do Fever in full ever. Honestly I think if they were going to do a fest, they'd make more sense at Lolla than Riot, but anythings possible so I thought I'd throw it out there.

Montebello Rockfest gets announced tomorrow at 12 noon EST. Last year the headliners were QOTSA and Rammstein. Wouldn't surprise me if they shared a headliner with Riot Fest again.

Run the Jewels not playing Pitchfork bodes well for them playing Riot this year too.
