I think it would be right up their alley. Would definitely be fun to see.

Honestly not that unrealistic either. They still play shows every once and a while.

Really? When was the last Steel Train show?

I believe it was Shadow of the City fest 2016. Not 100% on the year. And I'm pretty sure they did a couple shows in New York not long before that. Honestly if they ever plan to play somewhere other than the East Coast again, Riot Fest feels like the most obvious choice.

That Arctic Monkeys tour routing (and lack of other major festival appearances) lends some credence to the speculation that they might be a Riot Fest headliner...

Not to rain on this parade, but they're 10000% playing Lollapalooza. It's already been leaked and their tour dates have them in Michigan the Wednesday before Lolla, then a 3 day break, and then they are in Toronto the Sunday of Lolla, which makes sense because a lot of artists play Lolla and Osheaga (in Montreal) the same weekend.

The only thing you're raining on is inaccurate speculation. :-) If anything I'm glad they're ruled out, haha.

Truly stumped though who we could have. I'm actually starting to circle back to the idea that it's possibly going to be blink-182. It's been 5 years, and they don't have a ton of dates this year, so it would still be kind of a "rare" booking this year. Maybe blink-182 and Green Day? There'd still be one missing.

I hope not tbh but I feel like it's bound to happen one of these years. I mean I'd be happy for Tool fans cus I know what a big deal it would be so whatever

I'm actually totally fine with not being that into the headliners because I usually enjoy leaving during or right before them

Green Day and Blink I would def have to stay though

I usually like to stay until the end because I either usually like the headliners they have or I like to take advantage of seeing bands I wouldn't normally see, but Tool I've tried and just have no interest. It would be fun to finally see TBS or BMTH or someone close out a side stage or something though, since I normally always skip those bands in favor of the big headliner.

Please let Tool headline so I don't have to worry about them conflicting with a really good side stage band, or so I can leave early and get to an aftershow early.

Last year, I literally watched NIN do one song (with you, right?) and Jawbreaker do a few songs (though in retrospect I wish I would've watched a little more). It's definitely a festival where I'm totally okay if I'm not down with the headliners because the undercard always rules.

F all y'all to H for the Tool hate. Ya boy just wants some prog rock riffs to send him off into the Chicago evening.

Hate is a strong word. Honestly they make it too difficult by not being on streaming services. I'm only going to stream your hour + album on youtube so many times.

Haha, I know, just jokes. For real though.... they'd grow their fanbase if they got with the times and uploaded their awesome discography to some platforms.

Yeah we watched Closer and then bounced haha I watched a good amount of Jawbreaker but it was nice to leave a little early

All this talk of leaving Jawbreaker early is breaking my heart.

And I say it every year, but they really need to get Green Day. It makes way too much sense. I’m totally stumped for headliners unless they pull out another totally shocking reunion. Last year I didn’t care about NIN or QOTSA but Jawbreaker made up for it, this year I don’t know if one band could do the same.

I just relooked at last years schedule and I forgot they have bands playing up until the last 15 mins of the headliner anyway and I'm usually more interested in them so I guess I never really leave that early

Not having to get there until around 2-3 is the best feeling though

I love soaking in every minute of Riot Fest. 2 years go I lived about 20 minutes away (by public transit) and it was a dream. Last year a buddy of mine lived by Lagunitas so we chilled at his place and made a solid breakfast before heading there on Saturday and Sunday. I work in The Loop, so I am a quick train ride away from Douglas Park for Friday's bands.

I always have grand plans to get there by like 1 for whoever it is im trying to see and then I wake up Saturday and Sunday and realize it's just not going to happen. Unless it's someone I really love.

My favorite part of the fest besides the actual bands is the few hours on Friday before anyone really gets there where I can just wander around and soak it in then watch it all come alive.

I got there at 10:45 AM for the Menz' 11:45 AM set in 2014. My apt, which was two bus rides away, didn't have the internet hooked up yet so I was doing homework at Starbucks all weekend. I was absolutely spent by the end of the three days.
