Anything rumored for that? I really can't think of much tbh.

The biggest rumor I can think of that would maybe impact Riot Fest is My Bloody Valentine. I don't know how substantiated that rumor is though.

Other names tossed around have been Fleet Foxes, The War On Drugs (almost definitely playing), Japanese Breakfast, (Sandy) Alex G, Tyler the Creator (I think Lolla though), Young Thug, Julien Baker, Courtney Barnett. The National are kind of a toss up between Pitchfork/Lolla, but they could be there.

SZA is almost definitely playing Lolla.

Tim Convy from Ludo tweeted about You're Awful, I Love You turning 10 today, which has now got me living in a fantasy that maybe Ludo will reunite to play the album at Riot Fest. They're from St Louis, so if it was going to happen it'd make a lot of sense at Riot Fest. They've pulled off way more unlikely reunions than this.

I mean it's definitely not happening, but even if it was, the album is super top heavy so I'm not sure I'd want it at a festival.

But still. I never got to see Ludo and it haunts me to this day.

I'm incredibly curious about this one. Because all of my headliner thoughts keep disappearing due to other tours, festivals, etc.

If MBV and/or the National are on there, I'm fresh out of ideas for Riot. Haha.

TimeOut predicted The War on Drugs, St. Vincent, Courtney Barnett and Fleet Foxes. I could see any of the first three on Riot Fest instead.

Along the same lines, I was thinking the other night about how Modest Mouse and The National headlined before, and if they might get a more indie-focused headliner this year, and if so, who that might be.

I read something on Reddit a few weeks back that sort of broke down the last few years, and they called out the formula Riot Fest uses: A larger mainstream act, a "credible/critic darling" type act, and a reunion/rare act (or acts).

Obviously, there's debate to be had around this, and sometimes there's overlap in those categories but... It makes sense to me when you look at the last 3 years...

2017: Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Jawbreaker
2016: Morrissey, the Flaming Lips/Ween, the Misfits
2015: No Doubt, Modest Mouse, System of a Down/the Prodigy

I'm stopping it here because 2014 felt like there wasn't really a clear headliner on any of the days with the exception of the Cure on Sunday.

Yeah, that makes sense. I feel like it should be pretty easy to narrow down who that "critical darling" act is, especially once P4K gets announced.

i'm like so sure MBV is on pitchfork, it makes so much sense. i've been riding high on that idea for so long haha

Tim tweeted me back telling Riot Fest to have them do this and said "I wish they would". Who knows maybe Riot Fest will see my tweets and make this happen... lol

I've never seen them so I'd take anything they play, but I disagree about it being top heavy. Scream Scream Scream and In Space were always two of my favorites!

Sincere question: For a band like MBV. What's the benefit of performing at Pitchfork over Riot Fest?

I feel like their fans would come out regardless, and they'd get just as much $$$ (if not more) playing at Riot Fest to more people. And I'd imagine they'd be a headliner at either.

I'm legitimately asking because I don't fully understand how Pitchfork operates, who it typically draws, etc. But RF seems like the bigger festival.

From a stylistic perspective, they'd certainly fit better at Pitchfork based on what I've seen of past line-ups... But you could make the same argument about the Flaming Lips, etc.

Would Courtney Barnett playing Chicago in May affect her playing Pitchfork?

i mean, we don't know what they were offered by who, and for what spot. there are enough competing festival lineups this all works out eventually

I don't think so because that it such a small show. It's really unlikely she's counting that as her only Chicago stop this year. I'd actually even say it increases the chances of her playing, because she's got to have something else up her sleeve.

Got it. I agree that, on paper, Pitchfork makes more sense. But I can see Riot Fest coming in with a ton of $$$ and stealing them away.

From MBV's perspective, it's probably a question of whether or not they'd be a sub-headliner at Riot Fest. Assuming the offer came in.

Looks like they've also announced Japandroids, (Sandy) Alex G, This Is Not This Heat, Raphael Saadiq, and DRAM.

Of these, the only one I would have anticipated for Riot Fest would have been Japandroids.
