I don't have a gf but if i did she wouldn't like this lineup b/c in real life no one likes my music lol.
I guarantee you that Jawbreakers crowd will not be that large. Yes, they're popular and are a reunion people have wanted, but it is nowhere near close to the Misfits.
Right there with you haha. My best buddy is the only one who lines up with my tastes and he lives like three hours away
I didn't say that and I don't think it will be anywhere near as big as Misfits. I was just saying that compared to New Order (or to The Flaming lips last year), they are a bigger deal due to the reunion so of course they are headlining.
Flaming Lips would have a bigger crowd than Jawbreaker honestly. Jawbreaker isn't nearly as big as people think. Paramore should honestly be the third day headliner. They will have a huge crowd.
haha such a daily struggle - my girlfriend shot the idea down essentially instantly when i told her i wanted to go.
Let's not forgot that Riot Fest's niche is being somewhere in between Fest and a more traditional festival, and that the guys behind it are bonafide punk fanatics. I'm sure they would much rather advertise as "the festival that resurrected Misfits and Jawbreaker" than "the festival Paramore played on Sunday once"
Can't use The Flaming Lips crowd from last year as a basis. They were tossed in when someone dropped and bailed Riot Fest out. The crowd in 2014 was *huge* for them. Jawbreaker will have a good size crowd but they should not be a top-billed headliner. Sorry guys.
I'm fortunate in that I can usually rope one of like five friends into going to shows like the Menz, Shikari, IIOI, etc., but especially now that people have moved or are busier with post-college commitments, it's definitely gotten more difficult.
This band that I have adored since age 14 just announced they're gonna play another show and I can go to it so I don't really give a fuck whether they are the first name or the last name on the poster sorry guys
I'm not sitting here and shitting on Jawbreaker, I'm going to do all I can to go see them, I just think people don't realize they aren't going to have as huge of a crowd as they think. But sure, get pissy about it.
My stance on headliner billing: it makes perfect sense for Jawbreaker to headline, even if they're the third, fifth, or tenth biggest act that day. Reasons being: 1) Paramore fans are going to have no problem finding out via word of mouth or the bands enormous existing media presence 2) There is already a lot of pop leaning pop punk on this festival for fans of Paramore to latch on to Billing Jawbreaker as a headliner is a big deal because, while maybe say 25% of the Riot Fest attendees will care, who knows how many of that 25% wouldn't have come at all if not for Jawbreaker? Other than Bad Brains, there's maybe less for an old punk to love this year than any other lineup. It doesn't matter who has the biggest crowd, it matters how much of that crowd are there because of that band versus just because they're already there and "hey this band's big and I have no one else to see right now".
