Although.....this might be my only chance to mosh to paramore. This is a super duper rock festival. No one can get mad at me I'll wait until single days are announced
Big fan of a lot bands on here, and quite a few that I feel I should see but haven't (QOTSA, Orwells, Fidlar, Dinosaur Jr., Paramore, Bad Brains, HMW). Eager to see the 2nd wave.
I told myself I'd only go one day this year, but now I'm not sure I can wait until the schedule is announced. Might get a weekend pass anyway.
I'm not convinced of that. They'll be billed 2nd most likely on whatever day they play, and that band is usually direct support for whoever headlines. If they do close though, I just hope to god it is not Saturday because I don't even want to think about choosing between them and QOTSA. (Paramore would pretty handily beat NIN or Jawbreaker for me though). Edit: Eating my words a little here. Looked back at 2016 and 2015. 2016 the 2nd band always played right before the headliner on the stage next to them. In 2015, Faith No More was billed 2nd and did play earlier, but the other two days the 1st and 2nd billed played at the same time, so I guess it's up in the air.
I hope all the bands I want to see play Friday and Sunday or early on Saturday so I can see Luke Bryan with my friends Saturday night.
To be honest, I'm pretty disappointed in this wave. True, there's stuff I would watch, but I don't know if there's enough for me yet to justify going to Chicago for or dropping money on a hotel/train/etc. None of the headliners do anything for me, unfortunately, and there's a lot of stuff in here that I've seen between 4-8 times already that I don't feel the need to watch them. That being said, I'd watch: Paramore, MIA, A Day to Remember, Taking Back Sunday, Dinosaur Jr., New Found Glory, Death from Above 1979, Peaches, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Bayside, Say Anything, Mayday Parade, Streetlight Manifesto, The Menzingers, GWAR, Real Friends, Andrew WK, State Champs, Beach Slang, Knuckle Puck, The Hotelier.
Beach Slang said that they're so excited to be playing with Jawbreaker, so I'm guessing that means they're going to also play Sunday?
For the second wave, I am hoping for... The Academy Is... (performing Santi), Alkaline Trio, Danzig, Panic! At the Disco, and The Maine.
Yeah I was gonna say... the 2016 Rob Zombie set was set opposite the Misfits stage and was given the same pomp and circumstance as a headliner would typically be given.
And that's the thing, a lot of the pop punk on here is SO common. I've been seeing Real Friends, State Champs, The Story So Far, New Found Glory, Four Year Strong, Knuckle Puck, etc. 2-3 times a year for the past 5-6 years (FYS and TSSF not so much anymore). It's not really enough for me to slap down $200 to see them all over the course of a weekend.
Please Riot Fest Gods, give to me a full performance of Santi. I don't see Panic! happening but I'm hoping for the Maine (they make a lot of sense for the 2nd wave, since it'll presumably be after their Chicago show). I also do think Alkaline Trio could be on there. I already saw the Mighty Might Bosstones say they're playing one of their albums, so I would expect that. I also wouldn't be surprised if Mayday does ALIR and FYS does Rise or Die Trying. Exactly, so I'm hoping for the same type of situation with Paramore. I just don't know which band they make the most sense to play before.
All the acts I'd watch. Put an asterisk next to the ones I 100% will watch Jawbreaker Paramore * Prophets Of Rage Wu-Tang Clan A Day To Remember Gogol Bordello Taking Back Sunday Vic Mensa New Found Glory * FIDLAR * The Lawrence Arms * The Mighty Mighty Bosstones The Orwells Bayside * Say Anything Mayday Parade Streetlight Manifesto * The Menzingers * Gwar Real Friends Hot Water Music * Andrew WK The Story So Far State Champs Four Year Strong * Beach Slang Knuckle Puck CHON The Hotelier * The Flatliners * The Smith Street Band *
I predict Streetlight Manifesto performing Somewhere in the Between. Riot Fest is during their SITB 10 Year tour.
There is one album I know about for sure. I'm assuming FYS will do RODT and we know Streetlight will do SITB The Lawrence Arms posted: "More about the TLA set later .... etc." So maybe they'll do one too. Would love to see Oh Calcutta Also 20 year anniversary of Hot Water Music's debut "Fuel For The Hate Game" could see that too
That's the rub right there. Nothing about this is new anymore and we're getting the same stuff. And I don't care for full album sets anymore.
This lineup is pretty good, but a lot of these are bands I've seen before, most of them at past Riot Fests. That being said though I need to see the Bad Brains before I die.
