Riot Fest Tees: $25-$30 No trucks. All stands. Decent selection, prices and lines. I had s short rib chicken and waffle that was bomb. One enterence. Line wasn't super long at 1:00 PM today. Got in in under 10 minutes and that was with a hold up for my girlfriend in the girls line.
I saw him watching Somos from side-stage too. Also, the Stubhub Soundstage tent by the Ferris wheel has a pretty good lineup of acoustic acts, plus it's shaded.
So my thoughts for yesterday. Refused are just as great live as everyone says they are. Bad Cop / Bad Cop is pretty funny. I'll probably see them again sometime. The crowd for Jimmy Eat World seemed to dwarf the crowd of the Flaming Lips who closed out their stage. It looked to me like there were more people at NoFX than Flaming Lips. And of course, I am so happy it didn't rain during the fest.
Considering The Flaming Lips were a late add to the festival it's not a surprise if they didn't draw.
15% chance of rain at 6 PM today. We might be dodging the bullets. This is how Chicago weather has been all summer.
They were a late add in the same way that System of a Down was a late add. It isn't like they were just added last week.
SOAD was rumored, though. Flaming Lips were a late add that made no real sense. I'm still confident they were a backup for ATDI.
I don't care how big their crowd was, the Flaming Lips were incredible and proved they deserve the headlining spot.
I had a very successful day one! The weather was perfect. I loved the improved layout. I got to see all the bands I wanted to see. And I picked up the Mutiny vinyl and the Dammit shirt from the Smartpunk tent.
Does anyone know if they opened up the fence for people to leave over near the Roots/Rise stage after the Flaming Lips last night? They opened up the SE corner over near the Roots stage and I was able to sneak out after NOFX and get on the pink line pretty easily. Just wondering if they were doing that at various parts of the park.
I think they did. We saw people coming out that way when we where walking to the Pink Line. We left at about 9:05 PM and by time we got to that area it was maybe 9:20 and people where coming that way. Not sure if it'll happen tonight or what time it actsully began.
No, at riot fest. They had a huge crowd two years ago and still get a decent sized crowd for being a late add.
My highlight of yesterday may have been the Citizen acoustic set. Loved it. Glassjaw and Refused where do good also. Sound for Refused wasn't the best though, felt that with Jew as well
Fireworks shirt today. I'll be at Smoking Popes, Hold Steady, a bit of MCS, Bob Mould, The Hives, Descendents/Brand New (still haven't decided), Death Cab, and the Thursday aftershow.
A little bogged down by a cold today but I'm ready to rally. I'll be sticking out as I'm wearing a university of Texas polo that is a very particular shade of orange. As a casual flaming lips fan even I have to say they were incredible and a great fit as headliners.
