Your main transport to the fest is the pink line train from out of downtown. I wouldn't recommend staying down there as it can be pricey. I would recommend the neighborhoods: Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Gold Coast.
things may have changed but when i went in 2012 i had a car and found parking on the street NO PROBLEM every day. I'm sure things aren't like that anymore and this was at the old venue.
Is is too soon to try figuring out who is playing which day? Didn't Morrissey confirm which date he was playing?
Appreciate this, both of the airbnbs I had bookmarked are in Wicker Park, so I may end up booking one of them.
I'd stick to the train if you're looking to do after shows. They're fine to get to there, but trying to find an uber/taxi/lyft after a festival is a shitty experience all around. It'll take forever and the rates will be jacked way the fuck up. As for lodging, I was actually gonna suggest looking into air bnb if you hadn't already. It'll be tough to find an actual hotel anywhere in the city for less than $200 a night. Are you flying in or driving? If driving, it might just be easier to find a hotel in the burbs and drive (or take the Metra) in to the city. There's quite a few places to drive to a train stop, park your car, and just take the train to the fest. That's how tons of people get to Cubs games :) .
You can book an AirBNB anywhere along the Blue Line as far north as Logan Square and not go wrong. Hotels downtown aren't a bad idea but they can be expensive. Otherwise, the area around Douglas Park isn't great unless you go east. West is a bad idea. The L is just south of the park and a safe walk. There are bus routes and you can always get a ride share during Riot Fest. There will also be shuttles to bars and afterparties, too. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll help out.
Surprised we haven't gotten the second wave yet, this is the first time it's been over a month since the first announcement.
The question marks don't actually ever give away how many bands will be added or where they will be on the poster.
Someone was saying in late May they needed to wait until Voodoo released their lineup on the 22nd (like they usually do) before they could release the second wave, which apparently included Tool and ATDI. Then Voodoo released their lineup in early June, so who knows? They were probably ok to release the second wave whenever they felt like it. Then ATDI just had their cancellations happen, who knows where that leaves them and if RF is looking to find a replacement? I hope we find out Thursday morning. This'll be my first RF, but went to Coachella and Primavera Sound already this year. Triple threat of insanity! Honestly I'm so impressed with the RF lineup already though that the fact they're adding even more bands including a headliner blows my mind
Considering that Tool looks extremely unlikely now, I don't think that person had any clue what they were talking about when it comes to Riot Fest.
Time to start keeping an eye on Groupon in case they have a presale and give away daily line ups like last year.
Yessssssss billy talent actually fucking playing in nyc for the first time in a decade. I've never seen them live aside from one bamboozle performance. Now I don't have to go to riot fest I'm sure I'll get a misfits show in nyc/nj
So RF have confirmed on social media the following bands will NOT be in the second wave: Tool Beck Devo AFI NIN Prophets of Rage/RAtM RHCP Foo Fighters HIM
