I'll definitely see this. Seems like it'd be enjoyable. I'd like to see great original movies with female leads as well but how many great, successful original movies have there been lately in the first place? A majority of them are either sequels (Star Wars) or comic book movies. It's unsurprising that studios wouldn't go outside the box, and this is at least a step in the right direction.

You sound like you're not familiar with the obstacles of underrepresentation or how movies get greenlit.

All I'm saying is making shitty movies is not helping anyone's cause and its just proving the incorrect assumption of some higher-ups in Hollywood that women can't successfully star in big picture films.

Are there obstacles? Yeah sure there are... should they just give in and make shitty movies in the hopes that one of them will be accidentally successful and that will fix everything? No.

It was a snarky response to a stupid question. You can't honestly believe that its "Not possible in the current culture of Hollywood and media" (I know you didn't say that, but that's what I was replying to) for women to make good and successful movies when there are movies that fit that description that currently exist.

That exactly the kind of attitude that the people you're supposedly fighting against have and it is counter-productive.

Yeah, no it's really not as simple as "just do it". If it were this wouldn't even be a problem! The issue of gender representation goes beyond just the stars of the movie. Crews are still heavily dominated by (straight, white) men. That's a fact. Women (also POC and LGBTQ) have much more obstacles to even get into the industry due to nepotism, sexism, and general discrimination.

This is the issue. Not that anyone is just "giving up" and being defeatist. There are just very real problems with the way Hollywood deals with women both as talent and as crew. That's what the conversation is about and being dismissive and saying to just do it is nowhere near the solution. People are trying.

EDIT: Okay, not my most coherent thoughts. But my point is that it's completely dismissive to say "just do it" when... Well, don't you think people have been trying?

And I'm saying you don't know better than minorities who struggle against underrepresentation.

I hope you don't think anything you're saying is actually helping the problem of underrepresentation, cause it's not. You're just another gatekeeper.

Yes, its my fault... the guy who has literally nothing to do with Hollywood. I'll be sure to go sit in the corner and think about what I've done.

    I'm so into this.

You know what's funny...no one gave much of a shit when Hollywood churned out sequel after sequel of this series (I never even saw all of them) and yet they want to do another, with a change of cast (and, pointedly, gender) and people suddenly care. HMM. OK.

  14. It's amazing how mad folks get. Like... THIS is why these movies don't do well. Never seems to occur to them that the movie might just be entertaining if they'd calm down.

I hope all the people saying women should be cast in original properties are seeing original properties with women in them.
