If you’re looking for solid pop-punk with a heartbeat, you’ve come to the right place. Right On, Kid are a five-member band from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and have crafted an album worthy of early recognition and praise. Their first EP called When Words Are Enough announced their arrival to the scene, whereas Life Is A Movie welcomes them into the fold with open arms. This album is filled with everything we all love about the genre: great sounding hooks, uplifting vocals, well thought out lyrics, and plenty of excellent drumming. With a sound similar to Hit the Lights, Mayday Parade, and All Time Low, you may need to thank us later for introducing you to your latest pop-punk obsession.

Lead single, “Indigo,” is a great way to introduce Right On, Kid to a larger audience, and reminds me of the pop-punk prowess of scene legends Fenix TX, with an equally ear-pleasing execution. Other tracks like “Expressionless,” and the anthemic “Stay Close” showcase what this band is capable of creating when they set their minds to a collective product.

On the back half of the record, the band displays a new-found variety to their sound with tracks like “Blame It On Luck,” that describes the emotions of this past year and a half and the difficulties that ensued. The opening riff on “9 / 22” is one of the coolest guitar parts the band presents on this LP, and showcases the improved musicianship across the board from their first EP.

With so much improved songwriting depth, and the hooks to back it up, it’s no wonder why Right On, Kid is poised for breakout success at such an early stage of their career. With the right tour placement, we could be hearing a lot more from this pop-punk band as more discover the energetic wonder-kids’ blast of good vibes that come pouring out of the speakers. Life Is A Movie is one of those records you don’t want to miss out on, especially if you’re one of the last ones on their bandwagon.

Yeah, this is good stuff. Definitely got a little throwback earnestness to it. I like a lot of the related artists on their Spotify page (High Wire, Noise Brigade, Honey Creek), so this one is right up my alley. I even checked out one of their future show mates (All Hype) that was listed on their page there and went down a little discovery rabbit hole. Always a good time.

    Great review/recommendation.

Almost wanted to sing "I heard you crying loud" at the start of Indigo.
