what is it about Dan Harmon shows that makes its fans so wild, Community too, and I like both shows no shade
They got the formula, happy sad beautiful strange. It works wonders, originally articulated by Pete and Pete I think but definitely in existence before that. Those four elements and a lot of effort get people to really care about a show.
They superficially embrace a hip kind of nihilism that just makes emotional scenes feel that much more genuine, and they're just very intelligent shows that pay off for those who have an absurd attention to detail, i.e. every weirdo that spends most of their life on the internet
This is one of those shows that you could tell me any episode is your favourite and I'd be like "yeah that one's great" I really want to get my roommates into it but one of them is like suuuuper disgusted by burps so I feel like she'd have a hard time watching it.
When I watched the pilot way back when, I almost didn't get into it because of the burping talk being so frequent. But they reeled it back in as the show progressed. "Don't even trip dawg"
Ya, I'm pretty sure I heard commentary or read something a while back where Justin Roiland said he literally burped every line in the pilot and decided to dial it back after.
Best episode to this day is Lawnmower Dog "These two halves don't belong together... bitch!" That's my most quotable episode for sure.
Does anyone in here listen to Harmontown? Just now caught the joke about Jerry's mannequin leg in my rewatch of the premiere.
The burping was party of what drew me into the show, honestly. I'm always surprised at how many people hated it. The burping was part of what made Rick such a unique character and what made Roiland's performance really stand out. Sold the dangerous alcoholic supergenius act rather well.
I didn't hate it, I just thought it was far too much. It does make it really funny tho. And the stuttering.
I went to the Rickmobile, poorly run and completely understocked. Four hours for a t-shirt, I'm pissed I even went.
