spoilers for anyone who hasn't beaten it yet. He managed to make a really funny video out of this game.
I loved the first half of the game, thought it was genuinely terrifying and tense. Second half kind of went typical over the top resident evil. I really took my time with the game and still beat it in under 10 hours, which is a bummer.
I wasn't too keen on the boat as a location, but I was happy with everything else in the 2nd half. The first half was much better though; I def agree it was more tense.
Yeah the first half was definitely more tense, the later game felt VERY Resident Evil. Also did the classic RE thing where from like the latter half of the Mia section through to the end I had more ammo than I knew what to do with. That being said, it was the best RE game I've played in a long time, easily top 3 for me.
wish I realized you could get the shotgun before the dissection room fight/for like a majority of the molded in the basement. would have been damn helpful
I struggled massively with that part too before I realised 'get the shotgun' is actually a secondary objective at that point! It's evidently easy to miss because both of us and also my friend all were oblivious.
yeah I made it all the way to the Marguerite boss fight before realizing I could have gotten the scorpion key and thus the shotgun. It was just that blue gate in the basement or whatever, I thought it was just blocking your way to funnel you down a different path, didn't even consider it could be opened. I knew something was wrong when I had like 35 shotgun shells and no gun in sight.
Ha I kinda wondered if I had somehow gotten it when I wasn't supposed to. Came in handy soooo much when you find that room with 3 moldy fucks. Haven't played since Saturday. I just got The flamethrower, and found the missing lever you need. Can't wait to play again.
Spoiler relating to the recent Blair Witch movie, meaning if you haven't seen the movie don't read The boss in the Green house looked soooo much like the Blair Witch. That image has haunted me ever since I saw the movie so fighting it was pretty much confronting my nightmare
DLC?!?!?! Edit: reading up on it now and I think I'll be purchasing it when I get home! One review says it contains one of the best puzzles in the series' history.
was not aware of new DLC but I know what I'll be doing tonight. couple more thoughts replaying: -madhouse difficulty is so goddamn hard, really stuck on the first boss. -that he yells "Fuck" a bunch every time bugs get on or near him makes Ethan a very relatable protagonist for me lol
I'm so torn about trying Madhouse difficulty - I rage so bad when a game gets difficult and I cannot imagine how bad the 2nd boss would anger me seeing as that fight on normal difficulty stressed me out enough. But I also want unlimited ammo!
I believe so, yes! I'm gonna do 2x playthroughs on easy - one to get all the bobblehead thingys to unlock faster walking speed, and one to go for the under 4 hours speed-run to unlock x-ray glasses that highlights every item nearby, and a circular saw melee weapon. Then I will try Madhouse I think!
oh shit, maybe I'll do this first. I just can't get away from that chainsaw quick enough, really need the speed boost. That said, I assume the upgrades are found in the first crate, which you don't get until after beating Mia anyway so I might just have to tough it out.
Yeah they're all physical items that you have to equip when you reach a crate. The circular saw is apparently a ridiculously overpowered weapon that just minces molded to pieces!
Additionally, during the ship section I found the survival knife super helpful/quicker for killing molded (the walkers anyway, the crawling ones move/attack quicker), especially if you could get out of the way of their attacks. I'd be interested to try using the knife more early game, but the pocket knife has shit reach so it might be a wash
Don't start madhouse unless you have the circular saw!! I'm about halfway through and haven't shot a single bullet yet because of it!
Also, to everyone asking, no I can't say the DLC was that great. It comes with "Bedroom" which is a super cool puzzle mission with absolutely no combat and its kinda scary, "Nightmare" which is essentially horde mode against the molded and it really isn't that great, and "Ethan Must Die" which is super super hard and have yet to beat it. Seeing how Bedroom is the only good mission here, I would say you skip this DLC.
