Having to do a little more work to post in one thread out a thousand is a small price to pay for mental health.
I just don't agree generally. I think plenty of video games would work fine as straight adaptations but a lot of people, particularly movie industry people, don't take games seriously as an art medium. TLOU is already basically a movie and the idea that only super serious, movie games can work just seems pretentious. Even if an adaptation ends up a bit campy or over the top that seems perfectly fine if it fits the IP. Zac's movie will probably be an enjoyable movie and I suspect I'll find it entertaining. But I also suspect I won't like it as an RE movie.
If they wanted to make it truly faithful to the games then they would sell 20 extra minutes of footage as DLC a few months after the film releases
No a directors cut would be more like a GOTY edition that comes with the base game and all DLC and bonuses
Somehow missed that the trailer came out a few days ago. Never played the games or seen any of the adaptations, but this looks awesome.
I actually noticed today that the trailer that was uploaded to the PlayStation YouTube channel has over 1 million views already!
One of my former co-workers was annoyed that the movie isn't going to be a direct adaptation of any of the games' stories. I find it hard to believe people this boring and unimaginative actually exist, but here we are. (He was also mad about Black people being in Nolan's Odyssey.)
Lots of great movies derived from existing works take huge liberties with their source material. Not a lot of great ones slavishly reproduce the original text (and when they do it's usually from a non-visual medium - see No Country for Old Men or The Virgin Suicides, two extremely faithful adaptations).
Sure it happens. Deviations can also suck. There is nothing wrong with wanting a faithful or semi-faithful adaptation of a work. Faithful adaptations are not bound to fail just like reimaginings are not bound to succeed. I think it is boring to use an existing IP to sell your fan fiction most of the time. Sometimes it can work especially with talented people which is why I'm not against Cregger doing this completely. But it isn't weird people want to see one of the game's stories as a movie.
Having a talented filmmaker who is presumably also a fan drop into that universe to tell an original story that presumably plays to his strengths as a storyteller just seems inherently more interesting and exciting a prospect than recreating the plot of an existing video game to me, but to each their own I guess!
I'll take this one step further and say that if Cregger decides to use this opportunity to poke fun at some of the games' creakier/sillier elements at least a couple times, I'll be even happier.
even on top of this, not only are some stories better suited for particular mediums, but insisting on live-action adaptations over original material robs creatives of telling stories of their own within that universe. i'm not saying that live-action, mostly 1:1 adaptations can't be great, but when i hear people say they want a live-action adaptation of something (like a video game), it sounds like they're less-interested in putting their trust in an original story made by a creative who clearly has love for the franchise, and more focused on trying to replicate the high they got from playing the game for the first time - something i think is more likely with original material over an adaptation.
I trust Cregger. I do not need the movie to be lore accurate or whatever the fuck. I just want a kickass movie which seems he’s going to deliver. Every word out of his mouth about this movie has raised my hype level
