Goddamn, Cheese talking to his grandma and talking about Daniel at the table really got me. What a great, realistic performance.
This show is ridiculous. I love all of these characters, but the first time it cut away from Cheese to the rest of the friends I was legit bummed. I’m always immediately bought into whatever space the show wants to spend a whole episode playing around in.
I had to miss last week's so I just finally caught up on the last 2 tonight the Cheese episode was an absolute highlight first off. still really funny (Marc Maron absolutely killed it) but I was surprised how grounded and dark it was for a lot of the runtime. kinda reminded me of the first episode of Atlanta s3 for awhile there, without as dark an ending thankfully. Cheese talking about Daniel and the whole crew welcoming him at the end had me tearing up pretty hard this week's episode... man what a ride. I thought it was a little broad/silly in the first half, but the second half really drilled down on this specific tone that was batshit but also emotional in the way this show does so well. Big and Kenny Boy were such a good duo and the flashback to Cookie's death was so fuckin' heartbreaking - loved the return appearance from Deer Lady too. what a rollercoaster
Interesting reference to S1E6... Uncle Boonmee, the Thai movie that episode references also has a catfish sex scene.
This episode made me realize I was kinda off about the characters ages and stuff(and I guess I forgot some stuff from the first season). I thought Daniel, Elora, and Bear were all the same age and had already graduated HS and Wilhelmina Jacqueline was between them and Cheese
I can't remember if Elora dropped out or graduated? but I definitely remember seeing her come up to the school window to ask if Daniel was there in the 1x7 flashbacks, and Bear and Willie Jack (still not comfortable knowing her and Cheese's names lol) were in clsss
Did not think it was possible to love this show more but then they got Joy Harjo (the 1st native poet laureate) to cameo where her one line of dialogue is telling Elora "there's a big mess in the shitter and you're up". I had to pause the episode because I was laughing so hard. This season is absolutely crushing it.
getting nervous that we haven't heard anything about another season yet! if this doesn't get renewed I'll burn down the world
