Celebration of women filmmakers triggers heated debate among Salma Hayek, Jessica Williams and Shirley MacLaine
“Who are you when you’re not black and you’re not a woman? Who are you and what have you got to give?”
apparently this just who Salma Hayek is. i saw this a few days ago: "Salma Hayek Apparently Said ‘The Craziest S**t’ To Three 6 Mafia On Their Big Oscar Night" “Salma Hayek walked up to me — who I was super in love with because of “From Dusk Till Dawn” with George Clooney — and said the craziest shit: “You know your brothers and sisters are dying over in Africa because of all this jewelry you’re wearing.” Because I guess we had those big ole watches they gave us on, and these platinum necklaces. So I was like, “What?! What are you talking about? I don’t have no brothers and sisters in Africa!” And like that, Salma Hayek killed my hard-on. I just went limp. I told her it was nice meeting her and walked out away from that.”
saw that on Tumblr and it was pointed out that her husband is a French billionaire who heads a holding company that owns Gucci and Alex McQueen and shit. so that's another layer of hypocrisy lol i don't know really anything about Hayek personally so it was really disappointing to hear all this stuff
She was born rich so that doesn't help but she's also Mexican and the anti black sentiments are real + Latino ppl thinking white ppl will cape for them if they assimilate which they never will. A lot of Latino ppl I know are very anti "dragging race into it" so can't say I'm surprised
Dunno where to put this fun Twitter interaction, so I'll put it here: Lexi Alexander was tweeting the other day about Affleck standing up for Muslims, so I told her she should direct Affleck in a Batman movie where he teams up with Muslims to beat up Nazis. She liked it and quote-tweeted it saying it made her actually interested in Batman. Then today, while responding to Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin's suggestion that she should make a small-budget Batman film, she quoted my tweet again: Tweeting something that she liked enough to return to makes me happy, lol. Plus, that hypothetical movie would be amazing.
What the hell is it with POC being racist nowadays? First Steve Harvey, now this? Also, I fucking hate the anti-PC rhetoric. That last part is about as good an explanation as any.
see, you're supposed to follow a joke/sentence like that with (insert joke about how 'your people' are wrong/stupid for thinking that...or flip it around to show how backwards that is).... and then you dont follow up by telling a 'bitch to sit the fuck down'. But it's George Lopez so...I'm not expecting much in terms of good comedy from him.
FREQ #12: Sophie Campbell Wants More of Everything Good interview on representation with Sophie Campbell, an awesome transgender comic book artist who helped launch the current Jem and the Holograms comic series.
i'm still just in disbelief that they're going out and making live-action versions of damn near most of their Renaissance Age films. i just don't get it.
Those movies have a built-in audience of people who already love them and will see live-action versions. It's a very safe undertaking and I think all of them so far have made decent to great money.
disbelief? that's a curious word to use haha. I mean, have you not seen what hollywood has looked like over the past 15 years? franchises...they loveeeeeeee established franchises
lmao yeah, maybe not disbelief, cause i know exactly WHY they're doing it (cuz it's guaranteed box office returns) but maybe.... annoyance? that THAT's why they're remaking these, rather than out of a genuine desire that they can improve upon the original in some way. but i don't know what i expect
