Fox Developing Animated Indian Family Comedy From M. Night Shyamalan, ‘Family Guy’ Writer (EXCLUSIVE)
that's excellent to hear for the representation, but then i become hesitant after seeing those two names involved. i really hope it's handled well!
Yeah seeing "Family Guy Writer" scares me, especially since they just did that awful awful AWFUL Road To India episode. Disclaimer is that I didn't actually watch the episode, but I read a couple articles going into how racist and stereotypical the episode was. M. Night has potential, but I've never seen anything of his that was INTENTIONALLY funny.
The humor in The Visit was absolutely intentional. It's hard to believe it isn't in The Happening either, but who knows with that one.
I understand it now. I just assumed what it was based on who I've heard say it. Thanks for clarifying it.
Old news, but since the show just got its release date, I thought I'd bring back the issue. http://io9.gizmodo.com/it-actually-really-really-sucks-that-tv-s-iron-fist-is-1762435382 Thoughts?
Adult Swim’s excuse for not hiring women is a perfect example of TV’s problem Rachel McAdams to Star With Rachel Weisz in Love Story ‘Disobedience’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Asian stereotypes are the ones you can still get away with. It is somewhat baffling that they would act like Chinatown is so foreign when they shoot from Manhattan daily. All of those far-right types hate Michael Moore but all of these documentaries and shorts that they put out completely rip off of his style. I wonder if they even know they are doing it.
older sitcoms always seem to have a weird gay panic episode, amid a bunch of other homophobic jokes littered throughout the series of course, and it dates it so much. Current ones may too idk i don't watch them often anymore.
An Open Letter to the Creators of Disney's Live-Action Feature Film 'The Legend of Mulan' If this is what the film really looks like right now, my goodness, there aren't even words.
The live-action ‘Mulan’ movie might be hijacked by a white guy Disney(/ABC/Marvel/Netflix) has been so inconsistent with this. On the one hand, there's Big Hero 6, Asians of SHIELD, Fresh Off the Boat, and Dr. Ken, and on the other, there's Dr. Strange, Iron Fist, and now possibly Mulan. Once Upon a Time also had a Mulan, probably the show's only Asian character, and even made her queer, but she was so severely underutilized that Jamie Chung is now on Gotham hahaha it's funny because it's not.
If this is true, we already got The Last Samurai. Mulan is already a proven property so I don't see the issue with keeping the lead Asian.
It's a secret Jason Bourne sequel. But for real, that one doesn't bother me at all because isn't a foreign film with a foreign director, production company and all that? I may be wrong but that seems different than Hollywood white washing things...
The Great Wall is still the White Savior trope. It's not necessarily the same thing as whitewashing, making an Asian character white like in Aloha and The Last Airbender, but it's still a harmful stereotype to perpetuate.
