Reports: Brand New Perform Live With New Music

Where we left off with that dude…he still was or is a pedophile, and a cheating pedophile at that…right? Or am I misremembering?

 

Not that anyone cares but the NME article mentions the wrong venue. It was The Eastside Bowl not the Inglewood Lounge. I was at the venue but not for this show a separate one.

I had a friend who went. I was catching up with him in the bar area and I asked what was going on and all that he said was that it was a charity show. I know Jesse and his wife lost their son to cancer so I wouldn't be surprised if it was tied to that.

EDIT: Looks like another post in the subreddit confirms that it was for charity.

 

I still care and am happy to see this posted. If we see stuff and threads posted about Saves The Day still and other "cancelled" bands, we should see Brand New news and let the fans make their own opinions.

that said, human beings are capable of growth and change. I don’t know anything about Jesse’s personal life since the allegations and if he’s done that work to deserve one or not, but second chances can be a beautiful thing

also they played this charity show in honor of Jesse and Andrea’s son that died a couple of years ago and that’s a great thing.

 

Allegations aside, I think the members of this band just...generally do NOT get along and have not gotten along for a while (I work with some people from LI around where they're from, that's the info relayed to me). I imagine that also has a lot to do with why they likely won't tour extensively again. THAT being said, unless they've all carved out actual careers for themselves, I imagine they'll need money eventually so that could come into play in a few years.

Hope to see them live next year. I could see them touring with Drug Church.

 

I haven’t followed BN closely, but I find this hard to believe? There have been multiple instances of the band getting together over the years?

 

They might have been in the process of slowly patching things up, who knows. I think the whole Derrick Sherman drama back in 2013 seemed to cause a lot of big rifts in the band even pre-allegations.

 

If they got together for a charity show, doesn't this suggest that's not the case? To get together for something relatively small (irrespective of the cause) feels like it wouldn't be worth it. Jesse could have performed by himself and it would've been the same, I'd thought?

Doubt I'll have much more to say on the topic, but there's a few posts in there where I talk a little about my feelings.

 

I'd heard of their reunion a couple years ago...so this is not too surprising to me.

 

It was a short set and for a charity with a good cause. I doubt there’s much more to see here.

The music industry is filled with terrible people that are known and still making money. We elected Donald Trump as president at this point I’m fine with Brand New returning if they want.
Now saying that I also understand and support people who don’t want to see them. Money rules everything at the end of the day regardless of someone’s past.

I highly doubt they come back for a tour or anything but for some crazy reason they do come back I’m all in. Also I would put zero stock in the guy saying the band members don’t get along. This is not the case what so ever it’s just low hanging fruit.

 

I don’t mean to be a dick but that’s an absurd take and you know it. Because other people voted Trump, that makes it okay to have fewer morals yourself? That’s not how it works. Own it. If that’s what you believe, then don’t try and use someone else’s lack of morals as a justification.

 

It would be very un-Brand New of them to anything more than a private one-off event.
