Renfield (Chris McKay, April 14,2023) Movie

Led by Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula and The Menu star Nicholas Hoult as Dracula’s devoted servant, the titular Renfield, Renfield introduces the character as he finds a new lease on life in modern-day New Orleans after falling in love with Rebecca Quincy, a feisty but perennially aggressive traffic cop.

Directed by The Lego Batman Movie’s Chris McKay, written by Ryan Ridley, and based on an original pitch by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Renfield stars Awkwafina as Rebecca Quincy, as well as Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Bess Rous, James Moses, Caroline Williams, and Brandon Scott Jones.

 

That guy joyfully inviting Dracula into the meeting as Renfield freaks out is a great vampire gag.

 

Love that Hoult going in hard on the vampire movies between this and Nosferatu. Im all in on a goofy Cage version of Dracula too. If it hits on the same comedic level as something like What We Do In The Shadows it could be pretty fun.

saw a billboard for this yesterday and thought it said Seinfeld at first and was taken aback for a split second

 

What's the deal with Dracula

 

This absolutely ruled

 

This was such a strange movie

 

I loved this. Cage ruled as Dracula. And I loved the apartment scene.

 

Yeah, Cage was great.

 

Cage was having a blast. Had no idea Ben Schwartz was such a big part of it, don’t remember him in the ads at all.

Some of this looked and felt like an I Think You Should Leave sketch, like all of the minor one or two line characters (especially the ska joke/ska guys)

 

Also, wtf, Nicholas Hoult is a pretty big dude? I don’t think I had realized

 

He's certainly the main draw for me, outside of the general zaniness of the plot. He's been one of my favorites since 2007 and I am glad he is always gaining popularity

 

I fucking loved this haha

 

It has occurred to me that this is probably the first and most likely last movie to feature needle drops from both Lizzo & My Chemical Romance

 

I loved that whole ska bit hahaha. “Ska isn’t dead…”

 

I love his love for Pig. Such a good movie.



EDIT: For those who didnt watch; he said it's his favorite movie and most like him IRL.
