I don't even know how to rank such a diverse sounding discography. I know my favourite. Beyond that there are complex factors that make it impossible for me to judge.
I respect that. Which songs do you consider filler? I genuinely enjoyed it a lot when it came out but then have kind of sidelined it over the years because Forget And Not Slow Down became my go to. Today I glimpsed why I enjoyed it originally.
I just remember listening through the album on release day like 3-4 times and like...convincing myself it was as amazing as their last albums. I remember doing my top 10 list that year and putting at the top before realizing it wasn't even in the top 10 and admitting it haha. I'd say Up and Up, Bite My Tongue, I'm Taking You With Me and Give Until There's Nothing Left feel like phoned songs. Nothing really remarkable about them. They feel interchangeable and forgettable. I enjoy them when I actively listen to them, but again, I completely forget they exist until I look at the tracklisting for the album.
I have definitely done that with albums, particularly when I was younger. And I actually can relate a little - I think I wanted it to be as amazing as mmhmm and tried to force myself to allow it to be that level. But I do enjoy it overall. I will add that Up and Up is one of my favourite songs, haha!
I think, for me, the three way tie stems from each album being so excellent but in different ways and bc I associate those three with different life milestones. Each unique but all have the same "it" quality that what they captured was magic.
Yeah, up until then every RK release was my favorite of the year and on repeat. Five Scores was the first to not hit that high bar and be on repeat for months. Still solid with some of their best stuff, but I have to skip through it haha. Haha, my bad ;) Yes, dear fellow?
Five Score does feature some filler, but I'll defend Up and Up and Bite My Tongue. The latter features one of Thiessen's best puns ("Sweeping up the seconds that tick off the clock, saving them for later when I'm too ticked to talk")! I'd sooner cut The Best Thing, along with the other two you mentioned.
Well, kind sir, I was hoping my polite demeanor would express my disappointment in you. But I guess I just have to tell you directly. I’m disappointed in you.
I'll say Give is my least favorite on the album, but the bridge is pretty cool. I remember I used to dislike Faking My Own Suicide, but that one grew on me a lot.
In my opinion - How “good” they are: 1. FANSD 2. AFF 3. Mmhmm 4. Two Lefts 5. Five Score 6. Anatomy 7. Self Titled 8. CL My personal ranking: 1. Mmhmm 2. FANSD 3. AFF 4. Two Lefts 5. Anatomy 6. Self Titled 7. Five Score 8. CL Depending on how I’m feeling, Two Lefts might move to number 2 based mostly on nostalgia and my love for pop-punk. Because I grew up with them, the others are ahead of Five Score. I was underwhelmed by that album when it came out and I still don’t really love it. And Collapsible Lung is, well, Collapsible Lung. Even Don’t Blink and the title track are only really great when compared to the rest of the album.
Completely agree about five score. I remember seeing the video for the first single and not caring for it at all. There are some great songs on there but I’ve still never loved it as a whole. FANSD got me back into them
It blows my mind seeing the self-titled ranked above any of the other albums. I don't like Collapsible Lung but the title track and Don't Blink are far superior than anything from that first full length.
