I haven't listened to Anatomy or S/T in forever.. might need to refresh.

 

We start Anatomy in a couple hours. I recommend doing so!

 

Anatomy will definitely be the hardest for me. It was one of the first rock/punk album that I ever bought. I had a friend recommend RK and I bought it over Two Lefts because it had more tracks on it for a dollar less. I listened to it on my CD Walkman constantly and immediately asked for their other albums for my birthday. I tried to listen to it recently and just couldn't do it.

Alright everyone, welcome to the RELIENT K FACE OFF. This will be NCAA style matches, with randomly generated brackets for each album facing off to decide which is the winner of each album. At the end of all of the albums, we'll do a finale Champions Bracket to decide the best overall Relient K song. We will start off with Air For Free and work our way backwards.

Due to the band's insane amount of B-sides, I may just do them as their own album, and just use the B sides from The Bird and The B Sides. Anyone against that? Any songs this would leave out that would ruin anyone's day? If so, let me know and I'll include a couple with some normal albums.
Update on B-sides: I decided to throw some random B-sides into the Bird and the Bee Sides bracket. So if you don't see a Bside with an album it should be there down the road.

Here are the rules:

1. Voting will take place over a 24 hour period, depending on how close the matches are (if there's a wide margin too far to beat, the round may be run ruled to not waste time). The run rule is pretty much dead haha
2. You must vote on every match in a round. If you don't your other votes don't count. Just reply to this thread with your choices. I will not vote unless there is a tie needed to be broken.
3. Feel free to discuss why you chose one song over the other and why you like that song. It's what helps keeps these fun!
4. I avoid byes into rounds if I can, but sometimes it's necessary. These are randomly generated I do not pick them.
5. Once your votes are counted, signified by me 'liking' your post, there are no vote changes. Choose wisely before posting!

More 'good' songs on here than I thought (good compared to the songs that don't hold up, not compared to their later work). Couple of the choices were unfortunate for me - particularly the last two. Totally forgot about Failure To Excommunicte - that was one of my favourite songs by RK back in the day.

Honest opinion: Sadie Hawkins Dance is a top 10 RK song for me. Is it nostalgia? Maybe. Does the song hold up as just as fun and hilarious as it was fifteen years ago? Absolutely.

The last two were really tough. I heard the album again and it's still a fun listen, but definitely some duds.

Yea, it's a kind of hit or miss album, but the ones that hit are super solid.

I like "What Have You Been Doing Lately?" but it's just so heavy-handed. But it's fun. I find it funny how my perspective on a certain line has stayed somewhat the same though:

Relient K - "He's acquired a taste for Miller Light."

Young, naive Christian me - "How awful! Justin shouldn't be drinking."

Older, reformed Christian me - "How awful! Justin can do so much better than Miller Light!"

 

Light beer is a sin!
