I'd actually kinda agree with you. Though I do enjoy them overall, they aren't really... great. They're fun little things, but definitely not the quality of Air For Free as far as recent output goes
I cannot stop listening to Air For Free lately. I liked it well enough when it came out, but last week the title track randomly popped in my head and I put it on, and I've listened to it at least once a day since and am about to put it on again. Favorite track is still "Local Construction", but I even enjoy "Mrs. Hippopotamuses'" even though I could not care less about Ohio.
Oof, first listen thru and that song is not good haha. Punchline sent out an e-mail about it and said they thought it was one of the best songs they'd ever written or something like that...cool to hear M@ tho.
Just saw them at a one off @ IWU. Great quirky set. High of 75 Bummin' Who I Am Hates Who I've Been Elephant Parade Boomerang I'm Still Waiting For You To Be The One I'm Waiting For Forget and Not Slow Down Sahara I Need You Holy, Holy, Holy Prodigal The Doxology God Air for Free Look On Up Must Have Done Something Right Mountaintop Crayons Can Melt On Us For All I Care Sadie Hawkins Dance Mood Rings Don't Blink Candy Hearts Empty House Be My Escape Encore: Deathbed Never though I would see Empty House live
I feel like Relient K are one of those bands that I'd really like to see but their setlist could vary so wildly in how much I'd enjoy it. Could be incredible or awful depending on what they picked.
Even their bad songs are really great live. I'm no advocate of Boomerang but I was still losing my mind during that song.
Holy, Holy, Holy, Prodigal, and The Doxology were all played as one kinda of song and all led into each other. Then they went into God. I guess it was for the christian cred since it was at a christian university haha. It sounded great though. I love when it's just Matt at a piano. He seems so comfortable
Very similar set list to their second leg of the Looking for America tour, minus the hymns. I have no clue how they did that entire second leg without playing Local Construction or Mrs. Hippo at all. Personal opinion but when I gotta hear God and Air For Free over those two tracks...sadface.
Local Construction is my JAM...did not get to hear it live though. Runnin' and Heartache were awesome though
Local Construction is great live. Mrs. Hippopotamuses is great too. Saw it in Columbus and everyone went nuts. I adore Heartache. It's so good.
The title track is my favorite song off of the new record so I was definitely glad they played it. I had already seen them play Local Construction and Mrs. Hipp so I was glad for a bit more variety. It was such a fucking energetic show too. Band wise that is. You could tell they hadn't played a show in a while, not that they were sloppy, but that they were fresh and excited to play.
