Empty House was originally just a song he had on his computer that he didn't plan on doing anything with and it was my favourite song of last year. I wish he would just put everything he ever does out in some way. I bet he has so many cool songs.
Cat, Man, God, Bummin', Hippo, Prodigal are not good songs Local construction and Empty House and like half of Running are okay to good Everything else is forgettable. Definitely a lackluster follow up to a horrendous album.
Man and God are both great. I think most of the album's great. There's 2/3 I don't like and then a few I just think are ok. Overall a big step up from CL which was still fine.
I guess you and I won't be seeing eye to eye at all. Empty House is probably in the bottom 3 for me...next to...I guess Prodigal and the title track
Yeah, Air for Free's a favourite for me too. At least we can both agree Prodigal isn't very good, ha.
Last.FM says 3 times in full. That's not counting vinyl plays and any missed scrobbles from the spotify web player or itunes on my work computer that doesn't have a scrobbler on it. I'd guess closer to 8-10, unfortunately.
I still haven't bothered with Air For Free. Oops. Collapsible Lung is garbage, there are a couple good tracks, but you could just skip that whole album. Forget and Not Slow Down is one of their very best. The Nashville EP will change your life haha it's really good. Five Score is good, but has some clunkers and mediocre tracks. But it has some pretty damn high highs. I think that covers anything major post Mmhmm
Nice Avatar. And I'm totally with you about the Nashville EP. There's a possibility that it is my favorite work from the band. It would be a toss-up between Nashville, Forget, and Air for Free
Oh funny, sounds like you might have listened to the album even more than I have. I was just curious to see how "informed" your judgments were (so to speak).
100% agree that there are no sucky songs. Even with the songs I don't care for, I still don't mind listening to the whole album without skipping anything
Self titled kinda sucks too, but that falls under the "early albums suck" rule that most bands have anyway
Yea, there is some nostalgia value in some of it, but a lot of it is rough. I still adore Softer To Me though.
Fair. I usually don't think about that album when I think about RK, so I just kind of forgot about it haha. At least it's very self aware that it's pretty cheesy, where CL doesn't seem very self aware about what it is.
Yeah, I mean Matt and Matt knew damn well what they were doing with CL, and they knew it would be polarizing, I don't think there was a single second either of them were surprised by the response of anyone
AFF is mostly great. God I could take or leave, Prodigal is bad, and Runnin' is all over the place quality wise. But the rest is solid all the way through.
Seriously though, I'd take most of CL over Prodigal. One of my least favorite songs they've done since their Self-titled.
