I've seen posts like that. Honestly? I wouldn't be surprised if Collapsible Lung actually IS meant to be a genuine prodigal son type album knowing Matt Theissen. "Deep, mature, and thought provoking" is where you lose me. If it documents Matt's brief step away from faith, it must also document his step away from making good art. Actually, let's stick with that prodigal son analogy. Because that would make Air for Free the glorious return on all fronts.
"If it documents Matt's brief step away from faith, it must also document his step away from making good art." Hahahah. Awesome. I really can't buy that explanation though, it just seems like a weak excuse for a weak album.
Yeah, I feel like they were just trying to go poppy and it didn't really work. That one kid wrote that review about it being a deep profound spiritual journey and claimed Matt T validated it and all the youth group kids ran with it.
Oh it's a weak excuse for a weak album either way. Just saying I could see it. If anything, CL is an interesting addition to their discography as a whole unless Air for Free really is a letdown. Then it's just going to be all the more depressing. Something in me genuinely thinks Air for Free is going to be one of my favorite albums of 2016 though. That's a lot of faith after such a mediocre album, and I didn't even fall head over heels in love with Bummin'. I don't know. I just have a good feeling about it.
I haven't listened to Bummin', but generally I have faith in these guys. Everything seems promising so far.
I like it better than anything off of CL (including "Don't Blink" and the title track) and I like it the more I listen to it. But I think I'll love it more in the context of the entire album. We'll see this July. :)
I will say, I wouldn't have said it was better than those two tracks the first time I listened to it. But it really does feel tighter musically and gets better with each listen.
Finally got my replacement disc for Five Score... And it's a little warped. Seems to play fine though so I guess I'll just keep it. (If this is a bad idea vinyl people, let me know) haha Edit: Playing it a second time and there's still audio issues. No skipping, but a ton of noise and pops. Edit 2: Smlxl said I'm the only who seems to have this issue, so I'm glad no one else has gotten bad records. Weird that I've gotten two bad ones though while everyone else has gotten good ones. He said he'd ship another, so hopefully this one works out.
Yeah, I can't help but feel a little bit of a nuisance though. If this next one is defective too I think I'm just gonna have to live with it. haha
"I'm not trying to be a nuisance. I just think we can do better than this. That was only my two cents. You can, you can take it or leave it." Anyone?
Oh wow, I was trying to remember what RK song that was before looking it up reminded me it was John Reuben. What a throwback.
I don't buy the defense of CL with that "stepping away" nonsense either. I can't believe people actually buy that. So weird. I went to church/youth group and I always wore "secular" band shirts. No one cared. In fact the youth group would incorporate songs from Bands like Yellowcard, Foo Fighters, etc. truth is truth no matter who expresses it.
Got my 3rd Five Score C/D side and it is warped again. I have no idea what to do at this point, I think getting two replacements is a lot already and e-mailing them again would raise suspicion or something (even though I'm genuinely having an issue).
I'd email them and ask what's going wrong and see if they can check everything's ok before they send another.
I'll double check mine when I get home. I mean, it played just fine when I tried it out a couple of weeks ago. I only listened to side D to test it.
That sounds good. I feel like the damage might be happening in the mail now though, since they've sent the replacements in much thinner packaging than they sent the whole thing originally.
