Honestly, I haven’t listened to the OG’s in a long time. Two Lefts doesn’t come off as too different, assuming the gold is what’s on Spotify. I always noticed the changes on Anatomy, but I never disliked it. It just took awhile for me to adjust from having heard the OG trillions of times.
On Spotify at least, they only version is the remaster (gold) but it didn't notate that, it's just presented as normal
It was an intentional decision to make the gold versions the only ones on streaming- they were both remixed/remastered by the same guys who did “mmhmm” to sound more like that album, sonically. Eventually the “gold” label was removed and only longtime fans realize they both have original mixes that are now only available via the old CD versions. I liked what they did with the new versions - it brought out a lot of instrumentation that was buried in the original mixes. But I do miss the “raw” sound of the originals too. I’m interested in SMLXL will ever release original mix vinyl versions.
I don't know if I should make a "nobody likes you when you're 23" joke or "amazing still it seems, I'll be 23" joke... Either way, can't believe it's been 2+ decades already So many memories between this and Mmhmm. That was the best time being a fan in high school and devouring any music, tour, or news I could get. If only we could get some of that new music/tour news sigh...
To anyone planning to watch How to Make a Killing (2026), get ready for a jaw-dropping moment around 45 minutes in: there's a Be My Escape needle drop for about three seconds.
I have given up on there ever being a new Relient K album. Anytime we hear about Matt T, it’s that he enjoys being basically retired. It is what it is.
Yet he keeps being persuaded to do 6-7 shows a year. I’d wager Hoopes’ busy life plays a bigger role in the lack of new RK music than we realize too.
I wonder with Bleach getting back together this year if they could get Relient K to do a few shows. They toured together before and RK did their farewell show. I think Davy did artwork on a few of their albums too It’s been 10 years since I’ve seen them live, I’m more than ready
