The new drummer, Christian, shared a story on Reddit a few days ago about being part of the recording sessions for an Aaron Sprinkle-produced album on drums with songs that were all written by Thiessen, about a year ago. He said he can’t say for which band it was because it hasn’t been announced, but it sounds like Thiessen is still alive and well with songwriting.
Listened to Anatomy. Relient K was my gateway band to music. Haven’t listened to these records in forever. Fun nostalgic jaunt down memory lane. Matt’s ability to write hooky pop punk is wild.
If only this could be a new RK record, but the chances of that being the case are slim. Feels like we'll still be waiting a while for that...
I saw that too and I couldn’t help but think if that man can write an albums worth of songs and go into the studio to work on them for a week WHY CAN’T HE DO THAT WITH RK lol
It’s also been 7 years since Thiessen released Wind Up Bird, so he just doesn’t seem to be interested in releasing his own stuff.
He just seems completely uninterested in being relevant or famous. Kind of dig it. lol just playing frisbee golf and hiding away raking in the cash from a mega hit royalties. all the benefits of a one hit wonder without any of the negative connotation or stigma. The whole ethos of two best buds keeping the band special and inviting a rotating cast of characters as the other members. I haven’t really followed what is going on since Forget. Air for free is bizarre to me, but they just seem to be having fun with it.
Relient k with MLT producing is always top notch but an Aaron Sprinkle produced album would be fun to hear. But at this I would just be happy with a demo recorded on a phone
My entry and exit point was when they were a pop punk band. I hadn’t really followed them for years and hearing that album was a huge departure. The hippo song threw me in particular. It isn’t bad I just didn’t know what they were doing. Idk if whimsical is the word.
i’m not throwing shade at the album, I was just not what I expected after taking a 10+ year hiatus when I heard it. Maybe bizarre is the wrong word. I remember hearing collapsible lung once and really not digging that one.
Because if it's not the greatest thing they've ever done, he probably worries the backlash will be enormous like it was for Collapsible
