ranking the tracks of CL is a fool's mission imo beyond 1) title track 2) don't blink 3) everything else on that album is shit
@SpyKi from what I gather here, we disagree and pretty much everything RK except for their best and worst albums. Ha
I think I used to feel similarly but I grew to love it and just thought it was this really beautiful love song then I kind of went off it again and now I'm back to really liking it, ha.
I honestly almost always skip over it. Haven't listened to it in forever. Maybe I'll give it another go. (Doubtful I'll change my mind though ha)
Agreed. I just listened to it cause it's been awhile and i don't see how it could be considered bad. One thing I love about Five Score is how BIG the album sounds and Give definitely adds to the epic vibe. I think it just dawned on me why I love Five Score so much. It's not as tight or cohesive as the albums sandwiching it but I think it is their most epic album. Like, I'm obviously glad it wasn't, but it COULD have been their final album and it would have felt right. I still think MMHMM and FANSD have a slight edge, but man. Five Score is so under appreciated the more I think on it.
I've always found it more cohesive and consistent than Mmhmm. I know many disagree. I can agree with everything else though, ha.
Five Score isn't a bad album by any stretch but i think it's overrated tbh, i would put it behind Two Lefts and even potentially Anatomy if we're not correcting for rose glasses
I ordered the new Five Score pressing, and the D side is defective (skips, pops, lots of surface noise)... Hopefully this is just a one off issue and they can just send me a replacement disc. I can't really afford to pay to send it back to them.
Count me in the Five Score is their second best record camp. As @Lucas27 said, it really does sound HUGE. It’s also another one of those albums that was just the right album at just the right time for me. Honestly, I think it’s the RK record I go back to the most actually. Sorry to hear that. My copy is on the way. Hopefully it was just a one-off issue, but it might be worth your trouble to let them know. SMLXL has been pretty nice to me in the past when I’ve had issues with an order.
It's "Deathbed" and "Must Have Done Something Right" which bring the album to another level for me. One is their most emotional, epic closer ever. The other is their best pop song ever (and one of the most blissfully catchy songs in existence). "Faking My Own Suicide" is super solid too.
I went nuts (in my mind) when they played "Faking Amy Own Suicide" when they coheadlin end with Motion City Soundtrack.
There are some real gems on that record. I love "Forgiven" and "Faking my own Suicide." The only thing that bothers me is Matt's breathing throughout... it's so loud and noticeable.
I didn't realize his loud breathing at the end of certain lines was a thing that everyone noticed. Drives me insane.
No one ever talks about how damn good the Nashville Tennis EP is. "Curl Up & Die" is a heartbreaker, man.
