I think we could see another album from them. RK is just the Matts, they still talk to each other, and Hoopes shared interest last fall in playing shows again some time in the next year or so. He also indicated that he still writes music. But obviously his focus has been on 1981 Inventions and raising like 8 kids, including a baby. Also, Brad Moist (A&R guy at Gotee) was interviewed on a podcast recently about RK and shared how Mono vs. Stereo continues to exist solely as an imprint for RK to release music through whenever they decide to...it was a statement definitely implying an open-ended option for future RK music. He also added that Thiessen is an incredibly gifted songwriter...and IMO you gotta assume he's writing/creating stuff that, whenever Hoopes is ready to go, will turn into RK songs. They're on a long break.
Same, they were just another pop-punk band in my teens but went back to them and realised how seriously I underrated them when I was younger.
Relient K was the first band that I truly loved and couldn't wait for every release. It is a big change for a band that once put out an album or EP every 12-18 months to now having zero updates and minimal press around AFF. I think they will still release more music, even if it's a random EP. It's been 5 years since their last album, roughly the same amount of time that Anberlin/Copeland/Mae/Underoath were all broken up before reuniting. I don't know what's better, going through the letdown of a band breaking up and then getting excited for new music or just randomly thinking "whatever happened to (insert band)?"
I don't know, I think it sounds like pretty standard pop-punk. Can definitely hear a bit of Matt's older Relient k style in it, sounds like he did some guitar. Some lyrics are a bit odd (or bad, whichever), but I think that's always been part of pop-punk too. I'm not gonna listen to this song more than the once most likely, but I didn't find it unlistenable. (this is where I'd insert the shrug emoji if that transferred over from Absolutepunk)
The lining is silver...he is still actively writing/creating and with this MGK song, we can be confident he's saving his good material for RK.
I’ll say, Matt is probably always writing and recording. With Relient k being so inconsistent, I imagine the majority of his income now comes from his co-writing/ghost writing.
I can hear some Matt in it. But among other reasons, MGK’s voice is so unlistenable that it’s not worth listening to.
I’m hoping for a tour and not just a live stream hah. Either way, I’m just glad they’re doing *something*
