Haven't been able to get into this album yet. It just hasn't stuck yet. Maybe it's a grower. My favorite album is FANSD from them. Wishful thinking for more of a progression from that album.

This was a really bad interview IMO, ha. They spent the entire podcast talking about themselves: how good they are at music, producing, grilling, etc. Even the interview portion was almost completely about them; they only really talked about stories from times Emery and Relient K toured together that focused on what Emery did. Nothing about the songs or anything like that. Also, they definitely didn't talk about Collapsible Lung.

And the whole "we're Christians who curse and talk about drinking!! So edgy!!" thing just seems so heavy handed to me.

Hadn't listened to BC because I was reluctant to but RK was enough to get me to check it out. Don't think I'll be listening again. I hate to be so critical but the whole episode just seemed so narcissistic to me.

 

Their interviews are very hit or miss for sure. I like what Matt does on Break it Down, but a lot of the BC interviews are pretty lame, especially if the guys don't know the band well.

 

Don't Feed the Trolls did a decent interview with Thiessen on their latest podcast. Talked a lot about songwriting and being in a "Christian" band. I'd say it's worth checking out.

Yeah, wasn't the best interview but definitely found portions interesting. The way they referred to CL seemed very....dismissive? As if they almost didn't treat it like a full-length.

 

Runnin' is ridiculously great

 

This one is really good because it sounds like the interviewers, you know, prepared for the interview and they didn't talk about themselves and how great they are the whole time.

 

The Bad Christian guys mentioned that they were disappointed with their Relient k interview.

 

When/where? Maybe they saw the criticism.

 

I don't remember where they mentioned exactly, Toby basically just said he felt like it went badly after the podcast was over. Joey said that Facebook comments had also been saying that.

 

You could tell at times that the Matt's were uncomfortable or just....felt awkward with how it was going.

 

Yeah a lot of what they said about them, especislly Thiessen, was insensitive. Like, cmon, do you have to be told not to reveal stuff like that about people? They obviously don't want you to tell everyone you call an alcoholic drink disguised as a regular drink in public a "Thiessen." Just a bad and poorly planned interview.

 

I didn't hear the interview. The BC podcast kind of lost me awhile back even though I appreciate what Matt and Toby are trying to do. But dang, did they seriously say that? I know it's in jest but that's kind of messed up.

I hate how those guys seem to equate honesty with exploitation. Their interview with Stephen Christian was great, but even then, the way they stuck on the topic of him losing his virginity was obnoxious. It's like, "We need to be real here, so let's make a big deal of all the things you're most ashamed of."

 

this album is really surprising me and blowing me away. Musically it's beautiful and though it feels like ive matured a little bit past matt's corny lyrics, his word play is so impressive to me and the more serious stuff on the album really lands well. The only song I'm not enamored by yet is mountaintop, the chorus just feels so lazy. Seems like that song could fit on CL. Favorites are runnin, bummin, and air for free.

Does anyone have any ideas what the heck elephant parade is about?

 

The only song I don't really like is Prodigal, just think the lyrics could fit on their first two albums which I don't think is a good thing. Waiting for my CD to come to really delve deeper though.

 

It's definitely a lot more introspective and mature than anything on the first two albums. The word "Jesus" is the only real similarity to me.

 

I think the "egg on my face" line is bad, and the whole song really does have a very youth group sermon type feel to it like their early stuff.

 

I mean I still disagree but to each their own.

 

Yeah, I mean I'm glad you and many others enjoy the song. I don't think I'm exactly the target audience for the song either, so I'm not quite an impartial critic here.

 

I would like any insight on this! Haven't figured it out yet.

 

Anyone have or know of somewhere with reliable/official lyrics for the album?

 

yeah not really getting the imagery in prodigal either

 

They mentioned on Twitter they were gonna release them "in a cool way"
