I'm gonna revisit both of them, all I remember for sure The Malignant Fire having horrendous production
When David says they didn't all agree on where to go musically, I feel like you can really tell on Freedom. It has some bangers but between the glam rock sounding songs and those where they were recycling their own riffs, the album as a whole felt off. War Music was a marked improvement to my ears, but I haven't revisited it in years either. I think the best thing they've done post-reunion, and sadly the least known due to it being attached to Cyberpunk 2077 and done under an alias, is their SAMURAI stuff.
That reminds me of Jim Ward leaving or being kicked out of At The Drive-In in a similar manner. I do prefer the latter's reunion album but it's funny in retrospect how I have similar gripes about both's post-reunion work.
when Omar and Cedric's documentary is released, check it out. It goes into depth about ATDI and the reunion/Ward/etc.
War music rules. It’s just in your face the whole time. Feels like a distilled version of shape. Can’t tell me yelling “if you hear this you’re a weapon” isn’rlt awesome.
No idea, it was acquired months ago and I haven't seen any announcement of release plans Mars Volta Doc 'Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird' Acquired
I just found out about this tour the other day & apparently missed it here, welp. I’ll never forget going to the reunion show and getting the tickets from some swedish guy who was in town for the show lol
I saw them play last night at Sjock festival. They sounded really good and it seemed like they were having a lot a fun. I didn't know they are touring as a four-piece. I think it might be the best show I saw them play. It was all no nonsense. They just walked on stage when they were announced and started playing. Everything sounded so tight and Rather Be Dead will always be one of my favourite songs.
