Figured I would make this. I've had an account for a year but I'm just now really getting into using it. You can find me here. Also really liking the official Reddit app that was released today for iOS.

I had tried out quite a few of the third party ones like Narwhal and Milkeddit, but this one seems a little easier to navigate and cleaner looking than some of the third party ones. Interesting that there's no notifications available on it though. That was the main thing I noticed it lacked.

Yeah I think since Reddit bought Alien Blue, that app may be removed from at least the iOS store and replaced with this one.

Yeah I have to read up on what gold even means hah. I wish it was also available for iPad though.

Haven't tried the new app, but if there's no notifications, I will wait until there is. I love Alien Blue, and they gave me 4 years of free gold due to being a premium member. Gonna be hard to switch. Probably my most used app.

Being able to hold a post down and revealing a .gif or image without leaving that page is the best thing about Alien Blue. I downloaded the new app but if that feature doesn't exist, I won't use it.

Yeah I mean, I just really started using my account that I've had for a year. I likely won't even use any of the gold perks.

Seems like the app doesn't have notifications. What the heck is that about? Love the look, but it seems half baked. I hate going to Reddit every hour to see if I have any new replies. I need notifications, man. So I can argue with trolls in real time! ;)

Hah yeah that is the one thing that does seem weird. I'll likely enable notifications on Narwhal and see how that goes until Reddit does an update.

Enjoying both the new app for iOS and the Windows 10 app.

I've got a Reddit account too but I'd rather not link it. I mostly browse places like r/books, r/music, r/WTF, r/metal, r/dnd and r/Deathcore, among other things.

I've had an account for 5+ years and have been enjoying the site more lately since I did some pretty severe curating to have my front page free of misogyny, racism, sexism, transphobia, etc. It limits me to smaller subreddits, but my browsing and posting experience is better for it. I was pretty close to abandoning the site like 9 months ago.

I'm not digging the new official app so far. I'm going to stick with AlienBlue until it becomes unusable, if that even happens.

Just out of curiosity, what subreddits are you subscribed to? I can't really think of any of the "defaults" that any of those labels apply to. I guess unless you're talking about the comments sections.

The only two defaults I'm subbed to are AskReddit and TwoXChromosomes. I'm 100% talking about the comments. Because of the comments, I mostly stick to the baseball subreddit and the Cubs subreddit, though I also peak in on soccer, hockey, nba, hiphopheads, sex, rawdenim, and AskHistorians.

I did the self-curating thing on all my social media accounts recently for various reasons. I culled (or de-cluttered, rather) many of the accounts I followed on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, and Facebook. It's made for a better browsing experience to get rid of things that I know I'm not regularly looking at or don't bring me much / any satisfaction.

That makes sense, I was just kind of confused for a second.

I find it very liberating to just take a break from all of those things from time to time. Unfortunately, I have an addictive personality, so the time I used to spend on twitter and the like I just divert to forums like this.

Just have to strike a balance somewhere.

reddit is filled with idiots, to be sure, but it's one of the only places to go for routine discussion on niche topics/fandoms. It also functions as a fantastic news feed, if nothing else.

Pretty much my stance as well. I joined almost 4 years ago and it's gone downhill in so many aspects since then. There are still a few bigger subs that I subscribe to (movies, television, politics) but other than that stick to small/medium sized subs like r/minneapolis, r/netflixbestof, r/running, r/travel, r/diy, things like that. Reddit is what you make of it.

Randomized anonymity is a hell of a thing.
