I don't think it fully came together in the end but Simon Rex's performance was what really sold me on this overall. And the neighbor kid.
This was mostly good but Mikey thinking he could spend the last night after dropping his news is a bit of a stretch.
This was great, doesn’t touch Florida Project though. Funniest moment was probably when Strawberry’s ex(?) rolled up to the donut shop with his parents lol For a second when he left the house at the end I was afraid he was about to do something to the dog
I did a rewatch of The Righteous Gemstones this past week, so when it showed the results of the massive highway car crash, I couldn't help but whisper to myself "car pranks..."
I thought this was really great. It's so funny, in high school my friends and I were so into quoting those absurd Dirt Nasty music videos. I never would've thought Simon Rex would be giving one of my favorite performances in recent memory but he's brilliant here. All-time scumbag performance, and I loved that the film didn't give that character much in the way of redemption or growth. I need to watch more of Baker's movies, this is the first I've seen. Another thing I really liked was the way he gave depth to the supporting characters. Like when the weed dealers are bickering amongst each other towards the end, the movie suddenly becomes about this drug dealer family for 3 minutes and you completely understand the dynamics of their relationships. Handled the wrong way this movie could feel like cultural tourism, but the respect and attention to detail that Baker gave the supporting characters really shined through for me.
That was entertaining. Solid performances all around. The age gap is creepy, but I guess legal in Texas? never really gave it any thought, buuuuut a nude female musician playing a song hit me haha probably TMI. I’ll leave now.
This was fucking great, much more in line with what I think I'd like to see from Baker. I was a bit more lukewarm on Florida Project than most but I think that might just be bc I hate kids
