White Braids and Let Em Cry are easily the two best songs on this.

The lyrics on this song are so dumb, it's hilarious.

Anyone else feel like the mix of the song does not match the energy of the video at all? Definitely like this more than much of the last album though

someone else pointed it out but they're verging closer and closer into just making Jon Daly's parody song but without any of the satire

    Things have changed.

The b-section of each verse made me laugh out loud. Jesus Christ.

Why does he do that exact rap delivery so much lol

I like the rest of the song though

Hmm, Anthony looks like he could be a Beatles roadie at this point. Good thing he seems to like acid. The song is ok

As a massive Eddie Van Halen fan, I was surprised by this song. I was casually listening to it and didn't make the EVH connection until maybe 3/4 of the way through the song (the "David Lee" line) lol. I even thought about how Frusciante's tone during his first solo had a bit of EVH's sound without realizing it was an EVH tribute.

i love the new record from "afterlife" on, "la la la la la la la la" especially, it's like a floating synth fantasia with saxophone. before that run ("eddie" aside)... idk. somehow this album has even more groaners from kiedis than the last one lol

will be making a combined playlist of it and unlimited love that will ideally run less than 50 minutes

Did an RHCP deep dive recently:

S/T/FREAKEY STYLEY/UPLIFT MOFO PARTY PLAN - I tend to group these three together as the band's talents weren't as developed but they all just sounded so excited to be in a band and making music. A lot of cool songs but a lot of weak-sounding 80's production which can make them hard to revisit
MOTHER'S MILK - This is probably the only "fuck yeah!" feeling RHCP record as the whole thing seems to whip buy. I understand John's complaint about his guitars sounding a bit too hair metal/80's style but this is probably the only example of them truly doing their "punk funk" thing
BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK - Still holds up after all these years though could definitely use a remastering. The back half tends to run together for me but I love the balance of the funk-inspired rock songs interspersed with a few somber numbers and AK's raps are the least cringe here
ONE HOT MINUTE - I think this is the RHCP "truther" album and while I think it's neither over or under-rated, there is a ton of great stuff on here that unfortunately never got appreciated. Amazing how much Dave Navarro is able to dominate this album given how strong their rhythm section is
CALIFORNICATION - Probably their most consistent and the last time they really allowed themselves to let loose. Given how successful the ballad-y singles were I think this was the end of one era and the beginning of "Lite Rock" Chili Peppers
BY THE WAY - More emphasis on melody and textures makes for probably the most beautiful sounding album they've ever done. AK's vocals also sound great here and John went nuts, in a good way, with all the guitar overdubs
STADIUM ARCADIUM - Streamlined and consistent version of Californication and BTW. Unlike the other alt-rock bands they didn't use a double album to do any grand experimenting but were seemingly overflowing with ideas and wanted to get them all out there. As such it can get a little tiring listening to it but in small chunks, there aren't any bad songs.
I'M WITH YOU - Kinda bland sounding as they were trying to figure out what to do with a new guitarist. I think this is their most by-the-numbers record of the late perio
THE GETAWAY - Under-rated and I'm sad that these songs won't get played live again as I think Danger Mouse helped them bring in more subtle moments and grooves that they hadn't tapped into in a while.
UNLIMITED LOVE - Everyone sounds really excited to be making music together again. There are a few more up-tempo songs but, for the most part, this is a natural continuation of the Stadium Arcadium era
RETURN OF THE DREAM CANTEEN - Only listened once but this sounds, yet again, like a continuation of the Stadium Arcadium era only a little bit looser and more playful so I can't imagine it being a favorite yet also I can't imagine it being a disappointment to the die-hards.
