I Love Rock idk man, it’s one of the biggest rock records in years haha, seems like a pretty natural thing to check out even if i dislike them
i’ve been posting ranking threads weekly for every year going back to 1960 for over a year now. a band’s discography is light work at this point.
I find myself lately doing runs like this of bands that I don’t like that these boards consistently tell me are great and try to see what it is I’m missing…I tried it with Big Thief, The 1975, Father John Misty…would give their albums similar low ratings to what you did here
I dislike The 1975 and FJM and I'd still take most of their stuff over literally anything the Red Hot Chili Peppers have ever written.
It sounds like you’re trying to insult someone like they’ve insulted you for not liking RHCP. It’s perfectly fine to not like any of them. They’re all for pretty specific tastes and definitely aren’t as broad as RHCP’s mostly middle of the road sound.
oh no not at all…I really wasn’t aiming to insult anyone or their music tastes…I was just saying how the original posted said by listening to a band they didn’t like their “brain was diseased” and I was just saying I do the same thing quite often
FJM is great. I would not rate his albums the same. Big Thief between the two. 1975 probably close to RHCP lol. they suck. sorry.
Ah ok. I can never tell what’s just saying something and what’s hostile on the internet. I think all the bands you listed are for particular set of people who obviously care deeply about them. I can’t get into FJM or Big Thief, outside of a few songs, but I have friends that love them. Just not for me, but I see the appeal.
Why do some people act so bent but only in particular threads? It's like the maturity level is actually lower in some threads as opposed to others ... The subjectivity of music is one of the most wonderful things about it. End of story. People are allowed to like what they like and dislike what they dislike.
I think the biggest differentiator between threads is whether or not the band at hand is problematic. The discourse surrounding those artists is always going to be more emotionally charged.
I liked this album quite a bit........it's obviously long, but it's good to have John back, it's groovy, good headphones record. I liked the 2nd half more than the 1st on first listen. Something about John's guitar tone that I just adore and this band never sounds right when it is missing that. In my opinion.
also I like this album...best since By the Way.... but am disgusted to learn about AK's terribly checkered past. Never cared about this band really though. Their stuff has always been the musical equivalent to an old network sitcom or something for me. So I don't read interviews or their books or go see them live.
My favs are "It's Only Natural" and "Here Ever After." I feel like you might dig "Aquatic Mouth Dance" though.
this album doesn’t have as many aggressively off putting moments on it as their others but it also has lower highs. it’s so weird that on his comeback album frusciante feels like an afterthought
