Damn how did I miss new Jeff Parker? I saw Tortoise last year but he'd had a family emergency the week before so he wasn't there.
same, in brooklyn. I love the IVtet, and most of his other work but at this point I love him most for the role he played in putting on & getting together the people in SML, including Josh Johnson and Anna Butterss from that tape
Quite randomly the other night I started writing down what I thought my top ten albums of all time would be. Took me a couple of days but pretty much settled on a ten. The first album by The Sundays is definitely one of them.
Going through options for my album club pick next week. A runner-up that probs won’t get the pick but still deserves a listen all the same. Josh McKay from Deerhunter was in this band—they pulled off a dope blend of slowcore/post-rock and Indonesian psych and ceremonial instrumentation that sort of sounds like The American Analog Set or Mogwai filtered through Eastern influences. Really unique band.
I was listening to Wet Land the other day, wondering if that's my favourite of his. But he has several candidates.
Unclassifiable weirdness from this year, not too avant or challenging though. I mean it is challenging and avant but not as many people will bounce off it as you might express from those descriptions is all
in the initial stages of putting together a playlist for Pride month made up (mostly, with a few exceptions) of industrial-adjacent or darker electronic/dance pop songs by queer and trans artists. anyone have any good recommendations? the two definite choices are Pixel Grip and a song from the new Slayyyter record. i have a few others in mind that are a bit further removed from that sound, but not many others.
definitely have a Kim song on there (Pop Sound). i'd consider Arca for sure, SOPHIE is a maybe. looking for some grittier but upbeat stuff too though, and Pixel Grip is the closest i get to that at the moment.
