damn shame they didn't stick around. this track is kind of like Motion City Soundtrack strung out on heroin
New Tancred is so good. i thought her last two releases were kinda disappointing and didn't hold my interest, but this one is engaging from start to finish.
been listening to the new little american champ album all weekend. Such a horribly under-rated emo/punk band, hopefully they get more exposure this year.
Revisiting Troye Sivan's Blue Neighbourhood this weekend after seeing him at SXSW. What a talent. I'm really into the record and live show. He shows a lot of soul through both.
Anybody listen to the new Gwen Stefani release? I'm about halfway through my first listen now and am liking it a lot more than I expected. I'm particularly fond of Make Me Like You, Misery, and Used to Love You so far.
I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would, too. The singles seemed even better in the full context of the album.
@Jacob Tender I really like Blue Neighborhood. "Heaven" is such an important song @elphshelf Love that record as well. Lots of great moments
You're breaking my heart with this. What's the draw of that band for you, out of curiosity? I've heard a lot of praise for their records, but I thought Atlas was a thoroughly un-engaging listen. Are their first two records better? I liked the Yorn album, didn't love it. That seems to be par for the course for me with his stuff, post-musicforthemorningafter. This one is a step up from his last few, though. We've already talked about Dezen. I think some of the snarky, clever bullshit that was starting to creep in on the last record (on songs like "Kill Me") are pretty much full-blown on the solo record, which is the problem. That YouTube comments lyric really is awful. Glad you dug the Woods record, though! I felt similarly about Don't Get Too Grand, even though there were a few songs I really loved. It didn't seem to hold together as well as a full album, imo. But this one seems a lot more focused and cohesive. Have you heard the songs he released as singles last year, "That Hotel" and "Portland, Maine"?
Honestly, I thought "Kill Me" was funny. If you're going to be all "get off my lawn"-y, at least make me smirk, and that did. Nothing on this one did. And no I haven't. Worth tracking down?
I knew you would call me out at some point, haha. I'm sorry man...different stokes for different folks. I still enjoy the album though, and I revisited your review while listening to it. Great stuff. As far as Real Estate goes, I couldn't actually tell you yet...I've only listened through each album about two or three times. I grabbed their stuff based on a friend's recommendation as we're working on a mini-LP for the summer that's stylistically similar. But what I can tell you is that with how much Mac DeMarco's music has come to mean to me, I'm always on the lookout for more breezy, guitar-driven, easy listening indie rock, and in those aspects, they definitely deliver.
I adore Mitski's "Your Best American Girl". I heard it a lot on the radio this weekend and have been listening to it nearly constantly since. I want that record immediately.
Really loved the POP ETC album. Also, @Craig Manning were/are you a Hey Marseilles fan? I feel like I've seen you talking about them. Just listened to their knew album and really loved it
I put on the new O'Brother record last night and I enjoyed it a lot. I don'tremember the second half at all though cuz I was insanely tired and ended up crashing on the couch half way through. No fault of the record though as I was entertained up until my body snuck up on me. I'm definitely gonna give it a fair listen today now that I'm fully rested.
I keep seeing your avatar around and it reminded me how much I like Damage. Just finished listening to it and it's still super solid, so thanks for technically influencing the decision to revisit it, haha!
