I'm not going to make a big comprehensive list mostly because I don't have the time right this second. More likely to throw out a rec or two occasionally as I think about it, if that's cool: Some staple recs of mine that I don't expect others to mention: Smokey Robinson - What Love Has...Joined Together (ludicrously lush and romantic soul music from one of its most crucial legends) Mary Chapin Carpenter - Stones in the Road (tends to get lumped with country, but really is just incredibly well-written folk/singer-songwriter music with some of the best, tastful musicianship I've ever heard) Sandy Denny - Sandy (I hear so much of her in Laura Marling and a lot of other recent indie-folk artists, RIP Dave Swarbrick)) Commodores - Midnight Magic (It's been out of print for awhile, but as far as funk and dabbling into disco goes, it wasn't done much better at album length, one of my "hidden gems" more or less) Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle (Duh.)
tbh i gave your avvy a chance a while ago and was bored as sin lol will listen again but idk there's other post punk i liked a whole lot more will give it a chance again but
these are some of our classics, regarded as essential listens by RS, Pitchfork and other influential publications. they're entry-level music to the tropicália and bossa nova movements:
Listen to Whole Wheat Wheat Bread. Really good punk band from about ten years ago that was over looked. One of the few bands in this scene with POC especially from this time period.
Just listen to Depeche Mode. Any of these three would be a good place to start: Violator, Black Celebration, and Songs of Faith and Devotion.
I highly recommend whatever you haven't heard yet from The Cure I'll throw some more things in later, just first that came to mind
