I’m sorry, but this is a bad analogy. Phone etiquette and real life etiquette are two different things completely. I honestly do not think it’s wise to reply instantly. It seems needy.

This, however, does not apply to friendships DULAM. Only to dating.

Being on the receiving end it actually does feel needy and you run out of conversation topics faster. But on the other hand, when you're texting someone and it takes them long stretches to reply it gets pretty agonizing trying to have a conversation

Just because I celebrate the works of both U2 and Sonny & Cher doesn't mean I'm your lawyer, Dylan

I text fast between 5pm-9pm PST. Needily fast cause I'm most likely home alone watching Boy Meets World or something (every night at 7pm sharp!!). If you text me before noon PST I might forget to answer or not answer at all. If I don't know how to respond I just don't.

But that's why texting is great. The other person can respond at their leisure and the conversation can continue because there is a written backlog of what the conversation was.
Yeah, I was making a dumb strawman for sure. I completely disagree that it seems needy. It's just courtesy, IMO. If I'm into someone and they text me and I'm free, what's the point in not texting them back? They can then return the text at their leisure. I don't see the downside.
This is fascinating to me. I've never felt that it was needy when someone texts me back immediately. It just comes across to me as them being 1) excited to talk to me and 2) they have time to respond in a quick manner.

Regardless of whether or not you see the downside, I assure you that the majority of the population sees it as a negative

Pretty much all I've been watching! Fuse plays Scrubs marathons all the time and whatever the nostalgic Nick channel is plays BMW from 7-8. I got my schedule doooown. Tho lately I've been watching that Jodi Arias thing on ID. And if all else fails, I know Friends or Forensic Files is playing on some channel

tbh if someone texts me back quickly I don't assume they're needy I just figure they're probably messing around on their phone because that's what I'm usually doing if I respond quickly.

My most recent ex would text back almost instantly. It was as if she had the reply somehow prepared. Personally, I wasn’t too bothered by it, but I try not to be too swift to reply.

I wouldn't agree that it's the majority of the population. I think it's closer to 50/50. It's not even a majority among my group of friends, even, so maybe that skews my perception. I also don't think I've ever ruined anything via returning messages too soon, either. Things always fell apart for other reasons associated with how bad I am haha.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

My dating life has been so hectic recently that I've had time to watch every episode of Archer in less than 3 weeks, as well as text most people back instantly.

    I'm a catch!
