Totally made an ass of myself hitting on a woman at a party last night. Best part is, we've both stayed over at the host's place, so now I get to spend most of the day looking at my feet and trying not to become a singularity of embarassment.

So, for context, this woman is part of my wider friendship group, but is really good friends with the host of the party, who I happen to have known for 20 years.

So I'm at this house warming party and drinking steadily to last the course. I get chatting to this woman a lot throughout the night. She's got a huge soft spot for mid 20s pop punk and suchlike, so we got talking about that sort of stuff and generally seemed to drift around the room to mingle with other folk. As the night ran on, everyone decamped to the sofas and beer turned into gin. There was a lot of gin. There had been a lot of beer.

Anyway, we're all heaped on the sofa and I'm just drunkenly flirting in the most pathetic ways. Just like, teasing her and being a bit touchy (that being said, everyone was doing that to everyone at that point ). My male friend eventually collapsed to sleep with his head in my lap and then suddenly it's 5am.

At that point, everyone left the room to sort out the spare beds, so we're (3 of us, including my now sleepy friend) heaped in the corner of the sofa and she's stayed like, ridiculously close. More stupid flirting, so playing with each other's fingers and all that mess. Then we're both sort of checking if anyone is going to come in and she keeps turning to make eye contact with me. By now I'm very confused about how I've ended up with a very pretty girl curled up against me and my friend asleep on top of me, so I go for broke and lean in to kiss her.

She just looked at me and said: "No."

So er, guess I read that all wrong?

I apologised to her this morning. Felt like such an ass.

Yeah. Long story short; she invited me over for drinks, we drank a decent amount, were cozied up on the couch, I went in for the kiss, and was met with a stern, “No.” haha

 

Just read thru this thread and all you guys are taller than me I hate you all

Ive said it before and I'll say it again - being tall has its downsides too. It's not all peaches and roses up here!

5'11" is the perfect height. Tall enough you can lie and say you're 6'0" and get all the "tall credit" and short enough to not worry about shopping in the big & tall departments, doors, fitting in cars or cramped spaces, etc.

6’2”. No issues with feeling cramped, kind of the ideal height for me

In 5'3" and I don't rly notice when people are short unless they're shorter than me which isn't super common

Haha. Yeah, it does sound quite a lot like that situation.

She was pretty much OK with me this morning. I said I was sorry for my uncomfortable behaviour and she just said it was OK, then made me a cup of tea. I'd recommended a couple of bands to her, so we were Facebook chatting a little last night too. I don't expect I'll have any issues with her.

What I'm more worried about is that the guys find out what happen and rip into me for it. So far, nothing, but I've got my tin hat on, just in case.

 

5'8" and v happy with it.

In first grade I was the shortest in my class and I can still remember my teacher saying "wow it's been quite a few years since a boy was the shortest!". That stuck with me and I was self conscious about it for years. Now I love my shortness!
